St. Anger snare sound

Yeah, it sucks, but for some ass reason I'm trying to replicate it.

Untitled 09 18 - Putfile.com

Is that anywhere close? Snare doesn't come into it until about 25 seconds in.

use a metal folding chair

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

Imo, it should sound "looser". Since these are sampled drums, i wonder if you can really get that sounds, unless the samples are recorded properly. It's just a "loose" snare (loose drum wires).

Get good 2 ply head (but not hydrolic), metal snare, crank it tight, NO MUFFLING, loosen the snare stings a little.

Given the right mixing, and context, a ringing snare drum *can* actually sound cool!

You shake your ass but you're already dead.

True. The drummer in my band is obsessed with the snare sound and the drumming from St. Anger (I know, I know). He tells me that he took the snare wire off and tightened the head as much as he could.

My drummer said he was able to get this tone by doing that, however he said he ripped the head shortly after he got it. Now he wants to invest in Ulrich's signature snare, but I know he's too cheap for that thankfully.

DeL07 is a jewel in the rough
The batter head has to be tuned fairly high with a thick 2 ply head... Think Emperor X or something like that...

The reso head has to be tuned medium to get alot of resonance...

And all this has to be done on a metal snare, foremost a steel snare or a brass snare...

Up the shut fuck, you must.

Thanks I'll tell that to my drummer! I think he already got a steel snare. It's been awfully high pitch lately...
