Inching closer to that perfect rhythm guitar sound...
Ok, so tell me, which one of these is better?
No 57 MP3. (0.4 Mb) This one has 4 tracks of my AKG C1000 mic. This one is bassier. Yes 57 MP3. (0.4 Mb) This one has 4 tracks of my AKG C1000 mic and 2 tracks with a Shure SM57 on it. 6 total rhythm guitar tracks here. This MP3 has more high-end brightness. I used my 7620 with an Evo 7 in the bridge for the recording. Amp is my standard rig, but with some new patches I've been working on. So which clip has better tone? Which do you like better? |

I like the tracks with the '57 too. I've always like what an SM57 does with distorted guitars, and this is no exception. It gives it more of an "edge". The other one sounds too "distant" in comparison.
(I'm kinda looking forward to seeing what that preset will sound like with a Blaze pickup through my rig  ) |

voice of dissent - I preferred the no57 mix - it's a little darker and smoother, and I like that.
that said, I bet a mix with the sm57 in but mixed back a bit would positively own...

Jake, in PM you said it sounds kinda like Michael Romeo. Exactly bud! That's what I've been thinking too. It also probably helps that I'm playing a riff in harmonic minor.
Yes57 sounds similiar to his sound on Divine Wings No57 sounds similiar to his sound on Twilight On Olympus Well, that with a little bit of Petrucci's "Acid Rain" sound I'm positively giddy this morning though. mainly because I woke up and still like the sound. I'm happy I was able to get these sounds without having to buy a tube preamp. That's all Chameleon - G-Force - Mesa 50/50. Oh and Drew, I think you're right. A little of the 57 for ambience will do nicely. The 57s have good high-end for presence, but for sheer tone, I'll definitely take the AKG C1000 over the 57 any day, from my recent experience. |
