![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Another Rhythm Guitar sound thread... I'm obsessed with obtaining perfect rhythm guitar if you haven't noticed already ![]() Here's today's adventure. I am finally getting close to the sound I want. I don't very often get to have my guitar gear at home anymore (usually at the rehearsal pad) and with school/work I've been too busy to really mess with sounds like I want to. Anyway, I would be happy putting this guitar sound on an album. Can it be improved? Of course! This is just another in a long line of experiments. There's 4 tracks of rhythm guitar here. I used my Ibanez S7 with the Duncan JB pickup for all 4 tracks. I used the same rhythm guitar sound for all 4 tracks. The differences lie in the mics. 2 tracks were recorded with an AKG C1000S and 2 tracks were recorded with an SM57. The mics were put in as close to the same location on the speaker as I could get. What I found is the AKG has a more well-rounded sound, while the SM57 adds more bite and is more aggressive sounding. I really dig mixing these two sounds together, and I'm interested to see how this sound is going to mesh with my drummer and bassist on a recording. It should be interesting. Anway, here's the MP3: http://www.vincelupone.com/gtrtest/V...rhygtrtest.mp3 (1.1 Mb) Extra points if you can place the riff ![]() Here's a few pics of the miked amp. Same rack as usual, using a modified recording sound from the Chameleon, and the presence knobs on the Mesa are set to 6. I'm using the Mesa on half drive, as the full 100 watts just had too much bass for the mics at this volume. Since I keep my 4x12 cab at my rehearsal pad, the Avatar 2x12 will have to do for this recording. I'll probably use the 4x12 on our upcoming album, though. AKG C1000S: Shure SM57: The mics are right up in the grill. Please let me know what you guys think of the sound. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Vince, it's a cool sound, but A/B-ing next to some stuff from bands we know- Nevermore, Lamb of God, KsE, Korn, Metallica- it definitely seems to be lacking in the... *pause* you guessed it, I'm gonna say MIDS. It just sounds way too hollow and empty to me. A cool solo sound, but I'm not sure how it will fit in the mix. As an aside, it's almost a dead-ringer for the tone on Whitsnake's 'Still of the Night'. Scary. http://www.wolf.org |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ok, the file in the first post is corrected with some EQ adjustment. You guys were right it needed some more mids. It's still not perfect, but it's closer ![]() same link as before (I just updated the file): http://www.vincelupone.com/gtrtest/V...rhygtrtest.mp3 |
