Yeah, the amount of money you plan to spend is a big determining factor. If you're willing to spend about $100 on a set, I'd highly recommend the Shure E2c earphones. I've had mine for a while now, and now everything else sounds like crap in comparison. They sound so clear that I don't even use EQ anymore. You have to wear the speakers in a bit before they sound their best, though.

If you're looking for big, expensive, over-the-ear headphones, or anything in between, anything with the name AKG on it will kick ass. Sennheisers are nice, but a little hit or miss depending on the model, and I prefer the sound of AKGs. The Sennheiser ear canal buds are pretty decent too.

(can you tell I do this for a living? The other day I had to try out every single set of headphones my store sells...nothing beats $350 AKGs)
