![]() ![]() ![]() | Vocal/Guitar Mic Suggestions? Obviously the Shure SM-57 comes instantly to mind, as it seems to be the standard "go-to" mic. And for good reason, as by all accounts it owns. But are there any others out there worth checking out? This won't really be used for guitar parts alot at first, as I usually use a v-amp or pod type setup usually anyway. But it does need to be good for vocals. So should I just grab this, or are there any others around worth considering? Thanks in advance, help is appreciated. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I personally wouldn't use the 57 as a vocal mic, since it is basically designed to be used for instruments. When using the 57, you have to keep the mic pointing pretty straight to the source of the sound, which is not an ideal thing for a singer. For recording guitar cabs, it is an awesome mic. And it works very well with the snare as well. For a vocal mic, I would get a condenser mic. But if a condenser is not an option, a Shure SM58 or a Beyerdynamic Opus69 will do the trick as well. Great mics ![]() |

I've never really looked into vocal mics before, so I was completely unsure as to what to go for. I had a feeling the SM57 would not be appropriate for vocals, so that's why I asked. I dont really want to spend a fortune either, as it wont be used too often. Actually, having just read some reviews online, the SM58 is looking a pretty good option. And is probably what I'll get. Nearly all the reviews have been great for it, so it proves it's consistent at least. Plus the price is fairly reasonable too. Last edited by the.godfather; 06-10-2007 at 10:17 AM. ![]() ![]() ![]() | the 57 is cheap, and can do almost anything. If you dont alreaddy have a microphone, get one and you'l be well covered |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah, but if he is not going to use it for guitars, then there are better vocal mics around for the same price as the SM57. |

It's not the BEST vocal mic on the market, but it's one of the best cabinet mics on the market and it'll provide at least serviceable vocals. If you're just farting around and recording for fun, then a SM57 will be good enough and won't hold you back, but is a good enough cabinet mic that I think it's worth sacrificing slightly on vocals to get the more appropriate cabinet mic. If you're only going to buy one mic, it's a versatile enough microphone that it's a good one to get. "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

It sounds awesome for acoustics, cabs, bass drums, etc. ![]() Over here it is £60 ($120) so check it out. It has some awesome reviews. ![]() |
