Sonar and Firepod 24bit recording problem - only getting 16bit files
sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question.
so i just got my firepod (for $399 btw ... recent price drop) and hooked it up, fired up sonar and recording all 8 channels with total ease. much happy. so i set up Sonar to record 24bit, 48hkz and it gives me no error, and does indeed record ... seemingly perfect! i check out he properties on my wav files and they are all 48khz ... but 16bit! i'm using the asio drivers, tried wdm ... same thing! at one point 24bit was greyed out. i'm stumped ... i take it this is unusual as i can't find my answers searching google. FRUSTRATION if it's not too much trouble, any of you guys recording at 24bit in Sonar with a Firepod care to post some screen shots of your audio properties in Sonar? i wonder if something is screwed up in windows itself ... as i had a FW410 installed, the ASIO4ALL drivers (which i removed) and even tried getting a DIGI 002 working (miserable failure). this eludes me. had i not known to not trust the speed and responsiveness of my aging laptop while recording 8 tracks of audio, i might not have noticed so quickly that the files are actually 16 bit. |

Well FUCK! Right when I was about to sell mine... the going used price was $400, too! This sucks!
That's sounding really weird... I don't work in Sonar, but are you sure you aren't bouncing those tracks before checking out the properties? |

nope ... open ... arm track ... record ... stop ... check out properties = 16bit files.
i read an older version of Sonar had an issue where if you created the file, no matter what settings you changed after recording something that file was locked down to a certain frequency. the only unconventional thing i'm doing is that i created a file and made a template out of it (while at 16bit) ... then later switched it to 24bit. all my tests came from that tempalte. so when i get back to the jam room i'll start a new file from scratch ... but I'm skeptical that's the problem. regarding the price break - i was about to jump on the deal zzounds had going ... they were giving a "free" Audio Techinca condenser mic ($100) with the firepod for $499. My local Daddy's Junky Music matches online deals from other stores, so when i can i buy from them because it's nice to buy locally (returns, defects etc ...). So when I went there they were like ... dude ... that's no deal, Presonus just lowered their retail pricing to $399 ... zzounds was just trying to get more gear out the door. so i bought it for $399 and also bought an HP4 headphone amp for another $100. |

update - at the risk of sounding like i'm talking to myself but in case someone else has this issue someday (i hate threads were the poster never posts their solutions) ... sonar keeps some preferences in the documents and settings directory ... so while i saw the ini file in the program directory thinking that was "it"... there was the exact same file in my docs and settings folder that was overwriting my settings! d'oh!
