Probably a stupid question...

...but, is Pro Tools LE compatible with any hardware aside from the Mbox/002 stuff? Two inputs just ain't gonna cut it, so I'm thinking of picking up a Presonus Firebox; apparently it comes with Cubase LE but as I'm already familiar with Pro Tools it would be great if I could conbine the two. Thanks!

i just got a firepod for $399 ... recent price drop. so far, it's great ... totally whips my m-audio fw410. but i do have an issue recording 24bit but i think it's a sonar problem. but i'll get that figured out.

from the presonus site -

Q: Can I use the FirePod with ProTools software?

A: No.
ProTools software is proprietary and can only be used with ProTools hardware. However, tracks recorded in Cubase can be rendered to a common start time and imported directly into ProTools as WAV files. This will also allow you to import your files into any other audio program as well that can read a WAV file.

I think the answer is no...when I first started getting into digital recording, "pro tools" was the only name I was familiar with, so that's what I checked out first. When I saw how much Digidesign wanted for their Mbox and Digi2 or whatever it's called compared to what other companies wanted for firewire interfaces, I looked elsewhere.

I'm hopelessly addicted to Pro Tools, I'm just most comfortable working with it.

Which is a shame, because Digidesign are douches who gouge their customers.

I am a avid protools user and have been for years. I had an Digi001 ans then the Digi002 rack. My complaints are purely hardware oriented. The software is the best IMO, ease of use and flexibility is the best. I've never had any real problems and I run a fairly compley midi setup. There is a reason PT is the industry standard. I have outgrown my LE system and wish I had more inputs and a bigger track count. I wish there was a way link 2 002 racks but nope, cant do it. I priced out a pretty basic HD system, nothing too extravagant but good. 12 g's!

The jump from LE to HD is bollocks! So I continue to be limited to 8 inputs and 32 tracks which for most instances is ok, but somtimes it really is a pain when you are forced to comp tracks. Maybe I'm just lazy...

Protools love it hate it.
