I've been saying this on here for years, perhaps too much even But yeah I agree. Lighter gauges always have better attack and hence if djent is your thing, that applies.

yeah there seems to almost be this stigma with light gauges like maybe people only use them if they cant play guitar or something haha, i dunno, it makes it easier to bend and solo, so it OBVIOUSLY means that only people who wank and have weak hands would use them...

oh well those people are missing out on some serious djent action, and meedlymeedlying!

+1
Many of the arguments in favor of heavy strings seem to focus on feel, or perceived tension, but to me tone is more important. I can always adjust my technique if I need to, and I'll be very motivated to play if I'm happy with my tone.
The lighter the strings, the more flexible they are, and therefore have stronger overtones (or harmonics, or upper partials - whatever term you like) and therefor have a more 'twangy', 'trebley', sharper, clearer, 'djentier' tone.
But of course lighter strings also have less tension, and when they become too loose and rubber-band-like tone will go to shit. So IMO thin strings and long scale lengths are the best combination.

Nice stuff as always. So you use drop Ab tuning with fairly light strings? Great minds, my friend
