HELP!!!! SEPERATING TRACKS
i use Cool Edit Pro v.2. When i record i like to play the guitar while listening to the drum track, already recorded, so that i'm in time. The problem is when i record the guitar part it also records the drum track as well, this means that i can't seperate the guitar parts or drop in when i want. I want to have each track with just drums or guitar on each one. I know it can be done. I've seen it on Cubase. What i'm trying to say is when i press record i want the drum track to play but only record the guitar part, if you get me. Any help will be much appreciated. THANKS

Do you have the drums already recorded on one track, or are you listening to them from an external source? You should be able to have one track in Cool Edit pro be the drum track with it not aimed to record, and then another track with just your guitar input going into it being aimed to record. All you have to do is flip the playback while recording button and you should just be able to record the guitar with listening to the drums. What ASIO are you using?

I'm not familiar with your software, but most of them are similar. Most software has input/output designations under each track, and they usually have virtual Auxillary Buses. Aux Buses are a way of redirecting the signal flow so that you can, for example, add effects to a track and blend it with the dry track. Basically, all it does is double and reroute the output back to the Main Bus(es), which is the final total output. Usually you can mute the main track and/or the Aux Bus it is outputting to. Make sure your drums aren't going to an Auxillary Bus. This may be the problem.
