This weird guitar and its F# tuning has inspired me to write some oddball stuff I never have delved in before. What do you guys think about this? Personally I think it's pretty sweet all things considered. If you don't agree that's cool but I thought I'd share anyways

For the record my usual playing style is nothing like this, it's weird how a tuning can shake things up. It also has 12-68 strings which I'm definitely not used to. It's fun though.

It's the Behringer GMX212 bro. Mic'd up w/ a Shure SM57 Beta. RG7421XL has DiMarzio Blazes. Using one of those floss-width $1 guitar cables (my real cables are at the studio). Although there's some eq'ing, HPF/LPF, etc going on, that is basically how the amp does sound on my end. There's also no bass track on here, its just guitar + the fxpansion BFD program.

Hmmm. It needs something... the basic tone is good, but it seems... flat?

In a full mix and with Bulb's EQ magic or some shit would probably bring it to life, I guess. Try without those filters, maybe, and .... fuck. Nevermind me. I can't help but think of shit like that. Anyway, the music is kick ass. That's one of the best riff thingies I think I've ever heard.


EDIT - yep, the basic tone is fucking sweet, on second listen. It just seems like there's something lo fi in there. Gotta be the post production stuff. Eh.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Hopefully you'll like my band's CD when it comes out (being recorded now). Brutal is what we go for pretty much.

As for the production.... I am rolling off all the highs on the guitar above 5khz to get rid of the 'fizz'. It's possible I could raise that and it would bring some high end back in the picture. The only other things going on are a slight boost at 200hz for fullness, low end roll off around 65hz, slight boost at 3khz. I do have a mastering plugin enabled as well but thats really just making it louder not changing the tone.

Yeah that kind of thing is something I do a lot, and manifests itself in most of our songs in one place or another. I usually try to make it musical/epic while also brutal. I guess you'll find out soon enough when the record gets done.

It's cool, to be honest I didn't really anticipate anyone would like it so it's nice. It's something I came up with basically improvised at 5am, I thought it was pretty sweet but sometimes you can trick your ears especially when you're out of it mentally.

I always wanted to grab one of those ibby 8's, but everytime i hear F# tuning, it sounds too much like meshuggah. I think they've pretty much made it "their thing." 7 string on the other hand doesn't have such a unique sound to it. Sometimes you dont know if a band is playing 7's or 6's detuned, this is why i think 7's have much more room for creativity than 8's.
