Ozone is the shiznit. I had it on my old computer, and it made my shitty amateur recordings sound like passable songs. Very nice, indeed.

Yea, not trying to be a downer, but all I'm hearing is a smashed limiter compressing the hell out of that "bass drop" sound...

i also use Ozone... but last time i realized that this tool really diverts you to check your originally mix and it's quality.
i.e. it would take to much time and effort to change all my current projects for the upcoming album, and i have good results with Ozone, but you should use this tool ONLY when you already GOT the almost perfect mix and just want to put the final touches to it

so i definitely won't touch Ozone for the next album!

Ironic, I'm setting up my buddy's DAW/PC right now and JUST installed Ozone.

EDIT: AND I'm using your S2.0 Avatar preset for his main drum tone (demoing)

No it's not a preset, but there is wayyy to much to explain in this reply. Overall the main thing I had to do to fix this mix was EQ trimming.

If only it were my mix to perfect. I just worked with what I was given. Trust me, I don't like to rely on Ozone to fix everything

i think most people (me too) started to work with those tools because they fix problems very quickly and do great job prettifying
your mix with a few clicks but they make you addicted to can not working without them anymore

i think the best way to work with that tools is test them and check out what they do, and try to reproduce this sound you like in your premaster mix. after that you can do the perfection and loudness with those tools in a much smarter way. so that's my experience... and i already work with Ozone for month ^^

Ozone is just a compilation of usual mastering tools, that (and following) was a good tutorial to get into the function of the tools,
but the best way is learning by doing

just tryout what the sections do and you'll see what's gonna happen.
so there's no "voodoo-function" or something like that in Ozone, all just standard tools like multiband compressor, stereo enhancer, maximizer....
but in this case all in one.

so, very effectively, but as we germans would say: "not the yellow from the egg" to handle your overall mix out of that "magic box" ^^

Ozone is hardly complicated once you break it down. It just takes a couple of hours of staring at

A pre and post EQ.

Harmonic Exciter, just "excites" or "distorts harmonically" (as they put it) certain band ranges

Multiband dynamics, just compression once again on certain band ranges. Really good in the fact that you can alter the band ranges however you want, to any band range.

Stereo Widener (or some name like that) - fairly obvious what that does.

Loudness Maximizer. Ze limiter

Aside from the Harmonic Exciter which I think is a terrible invention, its pretty powerful software. I love to use the reverb on my drum bus to add a little liveliness to the sound. And the EQ is impeccable, great slope control. Never touch those presets though, absolute garbage
