Talking Still can't mix for shit

Hey guys. Had a play about last night with the stems Nerve End provided free online for their song The Squid (check em out, great!). Really high quality stems.

http://soundcloud.com/etherealentity/mix2

I used some new goodies - Metal Foundry and Revalver instead of Poulin amps. Very happy there, but the mix overall is still killing me.

I've got compressors and 'glue' and all that jazz all over the place, but my mixes always sound like Superior Drummer with some digital guitars on the top. I know that is avoidable - I've heard similar setups sound so, so good.

It's also not as clear as I'd like and there are a ton of issues but it was a quick mix. I'm also aware the guitar solo is too quiet - that was a mistake before export that I couldn't be bothered to fix haha. The synth+solo+vox are mixed stems anyway so they don't really count.

Good news is I consider I can get a listenable mix with good stems...Certainly need to work on my tracking quality for my own stuff - which will be next. Featuring a Vik and a Darkglass on the bass..we'll see how that goes

Cheers!

I don't think that we ever thought of it as the equivalent of music, as the end-goal was to buy more in-game slut clothes-- schecterwhore on rock band

Im a super chill mellow ambient slut. --7 STRINGS OF HATE

Thanks! I must say I'm still pretty happy with it - I'm past the sounding like ass stage but just can't get everything to fit together. Know what I mean? Or is it just me hearing that...
Felt like I couldn't get the balance right either - and the snare stills sounds too..unprocessed? I don't know haha

Yeah the snare could come out a little better, it sounds like the hits are too weak, what velocity are you using? Also I would add a bit of highs as it's very dark sounding

That's nice dude! Drums need to be more "in" the mix itself. I can't really explain what I mean lol >_<

drums sounds kind of small compared to guitars, so i get what u mean with guitar on top, but i bet some bass would really help everything sit better.

smooth transactions with: djpharoah, bob123, Sevenstringer, Jolo5150, kfiggy

Snare velocities are 120+ so no prob there..I'll try play around some more later

And yeah, Djentleguy. Exactly what I mean.

I'll put some more low end in the drums the - presuming you don't mean bass guitar - as there is bass guitar here!
