Pod help
Hey guys!
Now before you go off neg repping me for making yet another Line 6 pod thread please read what I'm writting for! Okay, so here we go, I've sadly and have for a while, fallen in G.A.S with Axe FX, just as allot of other ss.org community members have, but unfortunately I can't fork out that much money, so whilst reading through some old guitar magazines I found a lovely djent section that I never realized was there before, so I read it. And now I have a very kind incoming of fortune considering I won't have to fork out eighty nine gazzilion dollars for the Axe-FX. But I liked some things about th Axe FX that I'm worried won't be with the Pod. So I'll go through them now. I liked the idea of infinite delay. I liked that allot, and I'd also like to have it used particullarily well with a computer, I'd also like it to be awsome for djent, because it's a great sound. And then obviously, trippy delays would he nice and just, amazing sounds. That feel like they. Go inside you? If you know what I mean. Just that captivating sound. And then possibly great jazz tones? So would any of the Line Six pods do that for me? And what would do it best? (note: I'm patient with playing with settings!) |

I'd also like to know more about the pod. And the podfarm I've been researching but it's all so complicated! I believe I want the studio ux2 I think it's called, but what's this podfarm thing? Does that come with it? Or do I buy it seperately? And do I need to own a computer before I can actually use my pod? If so what do you recommend (cheap as possible) and what else do I NEED to buy? |

The UX2 requires one. Podfarm is Line 6's software for their pods. In it you can build a virtual rig for guitar and bass. What do you play on doing with this exactly? Be concise, please. |

Dude i pretty much still use pod farm for everything, you can honestly get really high quality professional sound out of it with time patience and.
And i also am confused by your second post what are you trying to do? Record or play live? |

I had a Pod X3 for a few years and i LOVED it. Not sure what style of music you are going for but you can easily make tones for any style if you spend enough time with it. I also used the delay through my effects loop when playing live and it worked perfectly as an effects pedal.
This song was recorded 100% with the pod (no impulse responses or anything) minus the axefx just to play along to it. AMBIENT HARDCORE PROJECT http://www.facebook.com/paragon503 SOUNDCLOUD http://soundcloud.com/gemmeadia |

just for recording and stuff. And what I mean by what do I need, I mean like, what else should I have with it? Like, what Type of computer would do the job best? How many of what type ofcables? Etc and Do I need to pay anything at all for podfarm? Like later on or something? And do I need Internet? And also, can I still get that infinite delay? Because it sounds cool! |

A daw is digital audio workstation. Its software you use to record, mix, master, arrange, etc any audio. Examples would be Garageband, Logic, Reaper, Protools, Cubase. The ones mentioned will work for you and each one has its own hardware requirements.

I'd prefer not to buy extra things for the DAW, because, doesn't protools require other hardware?
And I'd prefer software that I can buy on a disk or something so I know I can bring it back if I loose it! |

Yea i dont think you need anything special for protools but its expensive. the pod will do all the fx for you. The daw is how you arrange your recordings.

damn dude your lucky you posted this here in the SS forum over at the Andy sneap forum i have seen them dominate beginners until they are afraid to return hahaha. The people here are nice lol
But seriously if you are gonna take recording seriously at all the basics you need are 1. a decent computer(highly suggest having one built for you if you know anyone that will do it cheap and in the end prob will be anyways) preferably quadcore processor 2. Recording software (DAW) cubase, protools, reaper, etc. 3. interface (if just recording guitars the pod unit itself works as an interface) 4. monitors 5. cables (instrument and speaker (for monitors)) and there are a ton of little things man you will run into good luck |

sorry to bust your plan but i donīt recommend apple computers. because some plugins that you will run into at some time donīt work on macīs. and than youīd wish you would have gone with a PC.
as noob i recommend reaper as DAW. itīs basically for free and easy to use. you can just use the demo version actually forever, and it has no limits to the payed version. also you will not get that amazing sound with pod farm as with the axe-fx. pod farm is good when you use it right, but it has itīs limits in sound. the HD series sounds much better than any earlier line6 amp modeling device. pod farm comes with the pod ux2, but not with all expansions. you will need to buy and download some expansion packs to get the most out of it, like the metal shop and the bass expansion. for computer a quad core with 3GHz is good enough. more important is RAM. 4Gb of RAM is the absolute minimum you should have. i got 4Gb and manage to crash cubase frequently. |

Can't I just buy expansion packs myself?
And about the mac, I only decided on that because they seem to be a preference among musicians! But I have no idea is there a model of computer you could recommend? And about Reaper, I wasn't aware of that! So why do they still offer to sell it if you can have the full version for free anyway? |

the reaper guys want you to pay for it when you make money with your music that you produced in reaper. so itīs up to your conscience to pay for it.
macīs are not necessarily better than a pc. just more expensive and a fashion thing. as i said intel quad core and 4Gb of RAM minimum is most important. others can give you some more advice on that. when you get the pod ux2 you would need to visit the line6.com website, register to it and register your device. youīll find needed information in the manual of the pod when you get it. but one step at a time. donīt worry about the expansions until you actually have everything you need. |
