How low is too low? (SD 2.0 , Ibanez RGA8 , PODHD300)

WHAT THE FU- by Acramoc on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Not really a full song, but I wanted to see how low I could go before mixing and mastering became unbearable. I think that c# is about the limit before everything turned into muddy, floppy shit.

Also, I think I perfected the snare on this song do you guys think it sounds good?

(thanks to MF_kitten for the inspiration!)

Awesome! I love deep tuned stuff! It sounds a little bit weak overrall, maybe make it dirtier?

I went deeper with my PRS Baritone and I could easily go to A without problems, this one is in B:

I actually think the lead playing really detracts from the feel of the song. If it were just the low, rhythm guitar I think i'd enjoy it a lot more.

Yeah it sounds a lot grittier on the not-soundcloud version on my computer, I wish they wouldn't compress the songs so much when you upload them

I think the lead is what makes it awesome...and it would be too boring without it...not bad overall.

I'm so happy to hear this what scale length is your guitar, and what gauges are you using? it sounds quite tight, I think you should go lower

Jazz influenced Prog//Experimental
http://soundcloud.com/frogherder

Incoming - Oakland Axe Factory 9 string, multiscale, headless, single cut, piezo!

Did someone along the line not love you enough, because you were always failure?

If you make plans around custom guitar build ETA, you're gonna have a bad time.

Haha, the guitars do sound really cool. However, I am having a hard time picking out the individual elements of the kit. It sounds buried, so I can't really comment on the snare. But the tuning doesn't sound problematic at all. In fact, it sounds pretty cool to me.

Thanks to everyone for the input, I fixed up the mix and it sounds a .... ton better now when I A/B the original! Of course, you'll have to wait until I release my EP before you hear the finished version. (Dun worry it's only one song and a couple days of mastering away from being released)

EDIT: And Purelojik, if you look up the chimp spanner POD Hd500 tutorial on youtube, I based it around that tone and eq'd it a tiny bit in REAPER.

EDIT2: And yes, I will be going lower in future. MUCH lower (think spasm by meshuggah lol)

Nice playing and nice tone! This has me thinking. I've tried emulating the chimp spanner patch on my 300 and never liked playing with it. Yet for some reason, every time I hear a mix done with a Pod where I feel compelled to ask how they got their tone, it turns out to be some form of that patch. May need to sit through that video again.

Hahaha, awesome! The sub drop after the sample made me laugh because of how ridiculous this clip is

The funny thing is, i'm thinking of tuning down the last semitone to reach C# too, but for the sake of having the next string be an Ab... So same outcome, different motivation.

I love this insane low tuning stuff more and more!

Remember to use the ENGL fireball model with the sm57 off axis mics. Keep the drive around 40-50%, bass around 15%, mids at 60%, and treble somwhere around 50-60%. The only other effect you need is the tube screamer. Make sure to keep it relativley flat in terms of bass/mid/treble and at a very low drive. This should get you a good tone to mess around with until you find what you like.
