Sup Dude's!!? Rough/REAL mic'd drums mix for Dissipate!!! HEAVY "NEW" Djent!!?

Sup Dude's!!! So last wed i recorded Dissipate's new 3rd installment to the 3 song we're doing (I'm also the vocalist for Dissipate now )! Anyway, i decided to not go for something like the "After the Burial's" New sound for the mix (no offense to who did the After the Burial mix...just wasnt for this band i guess)....it ended up too thin and it "cheapened" the glory that I feel these guys can be!!! On top of that, the first two songs we did i had them do it to a click....well...the third song, which is the one im showing you guys was w/ no click, natural closed mic drums and the POD rockin Mike's Agile 8 raw!!!! Never thought i'd dial in a POD to sound like this!!! hahaha!!! >>>anywho, thought you guys would enjoy to know the PODS can still own RAW!!!! Not to mention, i feel this mix sounds just raw as hell, yet punchy and produced....reminds me of Pig Destroyer's Prowler in the yard meets Blood Has Been Shed's SPIRALS....but more "NOW" sounding! IDK....you decide!!!

anyway, I hope you guys agree to the "amazingness" i feel this band could be ground breaking w/out a click, and instead a drummer that "anticipates" the music to be more "INTENSE!!!" Less "perfect" and more feeling!!!! which i think production has forgotten about frankly...including myself!!!

Anyway, vocals coming soon! oh, and BASS too!!! hahaha :

Cheers Dude's
ENJOY!!!

That click just has the right amount of click and heft to it, it sounds like it's kicking me in the chest AND throat. Not too big on the snare, maybe you should put some of your glorious Superior snare into it

I agree muchly on playing without a click working really well for some things. Look at The Arusha Accord, they are so ridiculously smooth and tight, and no click!

I'll give more comments on the mix once I listen on my monitors tomorrow!

The section at 2:30ish is just amazing. Sounds fierce.

Edit: Wait, this is RAW POD!?!?! IMAGINE THIS WITH YOUR PROCESSING.

Whoa.. that tone...huge..

But I think you can augment the kick and snare with samples.

You know, till this day, I still haven't figure out how you manage to get that kinda tone from a pod. Seriously man, I mean I've been playing with the pod for a long time. And I can't even come close to your tones, even your earlier clips from way back. You're the pod whisperer.

Soo happy you guys dig this tone, a lot of it comes from what Mike and i dialed in tonewise for his "style" of playing...which the way he plays makes like 70% of the tone!!! hahaha...the band and i are actually really happy w/ the "raw" yet heavy sound we're getting as opposed to the last mix we came up with, so i think we're gonna keep the drums pretty much as they sound naturally, and once bass is recorded and vocals are laid down, we'll go in and do a lil spit shine on the mix and a lil master eq to glue everything together. i just reeeally think this band needs to just be as dirty and "real" as possible for recording! hahaha!

This is very cool.

Not groundbeaking sorry...

but very cool indeed.

A VERY impressive Drummer too. What I'm most impressed by is his steadiness of tempo and his consistency of volume when needed.

i agree man, it's just that natural feeling you can't duplicate or make perfect...the reason i used the word "groundbreaking" is because now that i know the song so well, and the thought that went into it, plus knowing the bass lines, as well as the fact that im also about to try and lay down some of THE MOST BRUTAL vocals evar on it...is maybe why i have a bias!!! hahaha, thanks tho dude, i'll pass the message to Jeff (Drummer)!!!

Thanks dudes!!! hahaha, i JUST finished doing the bass w/ JT and wanted to share. All i've done to the mix really is dial in a clear yet "beefy" bass tone in and then did a little Master EQ to gel the whole thing together for now, which i feel gave the guitars a clearer and more processed sound without losing that sound we liked from the Line 6 raw. Anyway, lemme know what you guys think if u get the time!

thanks dudes...yea...wanted the bass heavy when it needed to carry weight, but still pushing enough mids to cut through during the notey parts, basically something warm and hugging, and i think we achieved that!!! working on some heavier mastering to make this thing "really" POP in the end!

Thanks soo much guys for checkin and "re-checkin" in on this...i feel this current mix w/ bass etc. really "hugs" the listener as opposed to assaulting them, and with a band that has "this much" assault coming at you, they need a rich, heavy and "depthy" mix/sound to "wrap" the listener in, ya know!? ...just imho of course :P

Turd- dude...you should post more of your mixes!!!

Prydogga-will check it out!!!

Anywho, FourFour...congrats on finishing w/ the military...anyway, i luv ya man...but this kick owns...hahaha!!! ...plus he's got a kevlar topped marching snare!!! hahaha...can't say NO to that!!! ...plus, i never said these weren't at least "half" sampled by now!!! hahaha!

After the first listen, I really dig the mix a lot. At first blush, I really wasn't too keen on the snare sound. I'll have to listen to it again to see if it grows on me. I do feel the mix is aggressive, but isn't raw in the way that Prowler in the Yard is, imo. It is still really polished sounding while having a lot of aggression, which is a compliment.

revclay- yea, i agree it's not the "rawness" of Prowler, and i thank you for the compliment , ...i definitely thought of Prowler tho when it came mainly to the sound/aggressive behavior of the drums w/the music...especially when it was JUST gits and drums...idk! haha

For djent, this is about as raw and in your face I have heard. I definitely dig it a lot. That kick sounds awesome and the more I listen to it, the more the snare has grown on me as well. It really fits the song well. I just really am digging on this in general. Well done.
