DI recording guitars while micing your cabinet

question ...

the band would like to be able to record our jams sessions w/o all the cross noise you'd get in a 1 room band practice scenerio. i bought a stereo chorus pedal so i could split my guitar signal into 2 paths ... 1 to the amp and 1 to the di box. trouble is ... this hookup cause some bad interference type noise out of my peavey jsx amp. still not sure why.

anyways ... what's the preferred way to do this? do i need a mixer? would that help me send a prefect signal to my amp and my DI box at the same time?

our bass player wants to do this too.

this way ... we can record our DI sounds and have no drum/other instrument noises on our respective tracks AND be able to jam in a live situation. then after, i can use guitar rig 2 on the bass and guitar tracks to capture the moment with amplification tone.

serious tracking will be done later with mic's ... this is just for capturing ideas.

any ideas?

drummer may be going into synth drums for recording ... but that's another story.

Behringer's got a DI box that hangs off of your head while having a passthrough for your cabinet, so that should work for DI'ing yours and your bassist's signals, with or without cabinet emulation (which can be easily added later).

You'd need a multi input audio capture device, like the Presonus Firepod that has 8 in's.

Then you'd have 1 for you, 1 for the bassist, 1 for the singer, and 5 for the separate outputs of the synth drums.

The problem is that the vocalist's mic would probably still catch everyone's live tone, so you'd still have bleed.

Unless you fashion a muzzle with a built in mic Hell, singers need a muzzle half the time anyway

Use the Behringer DI box as Jeff suggests, or any other DI box with a link out option.

Make sure that the DI can take a powered input, if you plan on putting it between your head and cab, otherwise you'll blow shit up.

Any decent quality DI will have a "Thru" out - check out the Radial DI's, and if you want to get into reamping, the Littlelabs Redeye.

so you plug the guitar into the DI ... then 1 out goes to amp with a virutally "untouched signal" and the other into my computer? do i have that right?

Exactly.

guitar into DI, DI thru to rig, DI out to interface.
