Bash this mix! (Non-djent, non S2.0 content)

...but it does have Axe-Fx! xD

I've been working on this song for my post-hardcore band slowly but surely, and since this place is about 20 times more reliable than Ultimate-Guitar when it comes to sound recording advice I thought I'd go ahead and present this for your listening pleasure.

http://alexplant.name/studio/audio/20110308.mp3

The guitar is Axe-Fx and the bass is direct with Nuendo amp sim plugins and some other secret sauce on it. The drums are raw and real... I mic'd the snare with a 57 and used a single crappy Behringer pencil condenser for the overhead. The kick mic isn't even worth mentioning and I ended up replacing it with a sample, and I didn't have capability to mic the toms at the time. Clean vocals were done on a shit-tastic Samson large-diaphragm condenser (I'm beginning to see a theme here...) and the br00talz vocals were done with a Samson Q5 I believe (substantially less crappy and actually on par with the 58 as far as vocal mics go).

My distortion patches are all based around a (simulated) BBE Xotic Pre going into a Cornford RK100, which is in turn going through a RedWirez 1960A impulse with a pretend Neumann U67. The twangier and lower-gain of these patches is the same but with lower level on the pedal and some parametric EQ in front to give a Telecaster-esque vibe. The cleans are a Dr. Z Maz 38 SR with a Tube Driver in front and some plate 'verb. I played a PRS ripoff made by Rondo with L-500s in it.

I didn't do any rhythm or pitch correction in the way of the drums or vocals respectively since we're going for that raw kind of vibe.

I'm thinking that this is 90% done mix-wise... let me hear your thoughts!

Quick crit...

Lower the vox a bunch and compress a bit more. Also push a bit harder with your voice. The mic makes everyone sound whispery, so you gotta power it out.

Instrument mix is solid.

Ha yeah I did end up lowering the vocals in the most recent mix... but only by about .5dB or so. Either way good call. Also I kind of think that the "whispery" sound is what my singer was going for, so I doubt we'll retrack it. Either way thanks for your backfeeds. I've sent it off to Mike York for mastering and I'll be sure to repost once we get it back.

I don't have much advice about the mix other than the vocals sound a little loud to me but the song is pretty cool. Definitely getting a Postman Syndrome/Day Without Dawn vibe.
