Quick Nevermore clip.

The River Dragon Has Come.

Okay, I haven't tried to play this song in over a year, so I thought I'd give it a shot now that I have a 7 string again. There are sloppy parts. There's some cut and paste. I don't like the JB7, but what the hell, right?

This is my tweaked out, wanna-be Nevermore patch on my PODxt, using Sneap's patch and settingas a starting point.

First song, title should give it away.

I thought the distorted tone sounded crappy. Is that because of the JB7 or the PODxt? Or just because it's a different guitar than what you normally use? The tone on your other tracks sounded really cool. I especially liked the lead tone on a lot of those tracks.

On a side note, I thought the HC tasteless shred track sounded pretty sweet. I mean, I know what you mean by "tasteless" there (I laughed a little near the end), but I thought it sounded pretty slick, dude. The HC sloppy thread - Dirty track was pretty cool as well, but I preferred the "tasteless" one.

Probably that POD patch, I don't nomally use it. heh. Maybe I should re-record the distorted parts.

Thanks, man I haven't listened to that clip in like years. I think that's the one where they were going for no vibrato, and I started wanking the bar to make up for it.

Edit: Okay there's a 2nd clip up now, using a different POD patch. I do not like the looseness of the JB though, and that might be what you hear.

PS: Do not use the Streamed audio, it does something to the mp3. Yuck.

Funny, because that was from a tab, one that was on Nevermore's old website.. I may be playing it badly, or outta time, but it sounds like the right notes to me.

Got a link to a better one? ---Nevermind, found a powertab of it, it's so similar though, like one note different, and a couple in different places with the same notes(in the same octave).

Oh well, this wasn't ment to be perfect, I only played with the tab for about an hour before recording.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm still not digging the tone on the distortion clip, although the new one is admittedly better than the first one. Also, in the clean part, there are some noticeable mistakes (which I''m assuming are because you learned the song recently and you could easily fix them by just practicing the song more). And, near the end, there were a few parts that sounded a little odd...

I think seedawakener's idea of learning from a guitar pro tab (or another such programmed tab) would be good, but I'd also recommend playing along with the actual song off the album to try to get everything down. Like, I've been in several bands that cover old Metallica songs (Ride The Lightning, Battery, Fight Fire With Fire, etc.) and what I do is I put the album on and play along with it. If my playing doesn't match up, I try again. After a little bit, my playing is exactly on with the recording (my new band is covering Battery, so I've been practicing singing while playing it, which I've got down pretty good now, but by playing along with the record, I got the timing, right notes, picking style, and all the good stuff).

I look forward to hearing the next version of it.

Yup, admittedly I was goofing off, and had no real intension of doing a exact clip. Especially since I almost never listen to the CD this is on anymore.

And I've found a few Guitar Pro and PowerTabs for this song, and they're all very simialr to that .txt tab I have. Mostly it's just me screwing it up.

I remember there was this song I learned a while back by a .txt tab file I had and when I played it, it sounded completely different. I never tried to learn it seriously, so I just kind of didn't do anything about it. When I checked out on a Guitar Pro tab for the song later, I found that 95% of my notes were correct, but were not played in the correct timing for the song, but were played in some completely different rhythm that I had created for some reason (it wasn't even a song I listened to much, so eh...)

I think, if you're gonna use Guitar Pro and Power Tab tabs, there is a world of difference over .txt tabs. In GP and PT, you can't get away with just randomly tabbing stuff like a lot of kids get away with in .txt tabs.

I remember when I could just get guitar mags for tabs. I have a plastic bin in my closet filled with them, but I stopped messing with them a long time ago. The last couple 'cover' things I've learned have been Iced Earth songs off "The Frozen Palace" website.

Anyway, got a .060 while I was out shopping, so maybe I can get the low string a bit tighter sounding. That JB has to go, all my POD patches sound all wooly/fuzzy with it.
