That "lightsnake" cable just seems like a gimmick to me. There are cheaper alternatives that do the same thing:

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/DVForge/GUITARPLUG/

The idea is that you plug your guitar directly into the USB port, then use a program like Guitar Rig or plug-ins like Amplitube or Amp Farm to get your guitar tones directly in the digital environment.

I have an old laptop that cannot upgrade the soundcard, thereof... fuck I screwed up the grammar on this one *hides from Drew*

I'd be interested in trying one of these out. I'd like to do 'quick clips' of myself playing, instead of having to record onto my Tascam 788, then burn to CD, then put it on my computer as an mp3. Too much work for a little bit of fun-type-stuff recording.

Wonder how it'd sound 'after' my rig, then into the computer.

Damnit. I thought Whitesnake had put out an acoustic cd or something.

The actual product isn't important in any case I was just wondering how good the guitar->usb cables were for quick recording. I think I may have to give something like it a try.
