Powerball, Pitbull CL, BK C-Bomb, track of metal
Well, the guys that wrote and played it call it 'Progressive melodic hardcore', but I have no time for such absurd pseudo-genres. I like the tune, though.
I recorded and mixed it. It was played (not by me! just to be completely clear; cant take credit for others work and all that) on my SLSMG with the bridge ceramic nailbomb through my powerball, and reamped through and blended with the VHT. Drums are S2. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3702469/Compass.mp3 These are the chaps. Horizons on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads I did the other song on there as well, but I like the new mix much more (fora variety of reasons, but hear for yourself). |

No one? Is it that its not a streaming link, or is it really that bad?
Its up on their myspace now, with incumbent quality loss, but you'll get the idea. |

Not so sure about 'progressive melodic hardcore' just sounds like metalcore to me. But I quite like this mix!
Also a top notch guitar tone.

The tone is really good. That C-Bomb sounds great. I hope i don't regret getting a miracle man over the C-bomb. Although it is dependent on wood..
also... THAT POWERBALL DOESNT CUT THROUGH THE MIX AT ALL! just kidding, it really sounds great. EBMM JPX7 Fractal Audio Axe FX |

Thanks guys.
I've heard that about the powerball, dont quite get it myself. User error, imo. That said, if the PB and CL were to sit in a live setting together I daresay the Cl would eat the PB alive, but thats not the PBs fault, its just the CL is awesome. If youre interested though, this is pure PB; one of my tracks, played on my Legras, one with C-Bomb left and one with an Aftermath right. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3702469/Memento%20Mori.mp3 Hadleys hope on the myspace was tracked on an LTD somethingorother, MH1000 or the like, with an 81 brige through the PB only. Terrible guitar with, IMO, tinny, unresonant POS. The 81 didnt help with that and it really didnt mesh with the engls bright voicing at all. The dry tone was near identical to on memento mori, but I had to give it considerably more treatment in the mix than on my BKd legras. That was one of the reasons I insisted on using one of my guitars for the second song. As for MM Vs C-Bomb - the C-bomb is middier and more organic, less compressed, but they're very close in that regard, the top end is tailed off more on the C-Bomb, it sounds 'sweeter', if you like. I'd bet the MM has a higher resonant peak, and its got more low mid meat and bass in general. I like the C-Bomb better personally - of my 4 main guitars 2 are c-bomb and 2 are aftermath. But its all personal taste, no? As far as woods go, its a usefull guideline, but I dont really buy this 'this pickup goes with that wood' thing. It depends on the piece of wood, imo, and the quality of construction of the guitar. I've heard a nailbomb sound dreadfull in basswood body/maple neck/rosewood FB (a dean ZX in this case), and I've heard it sound stunning in basswood/maple/rosewood (a jackson DX1). I've heard a PK slay in the same jackson, and sound boxy in a dean custom shop of the same woods. The list goes on, too much typing. It depends most on the exact guitar you have that the woods its made from, imo. |
