Do you have a pod X3? do you think your recorded tone is stiff and fizzy? i can help!
okay, so you guys know that all pod X3/X3L users get the pod farm plug-in for free, to use in your DAW?
i found out an awesome way of making your tone miles more awesome using it! you will be using your actual pod to make the basic tone, with the amp modelling etc. you can do the cab modelling and effects in pod farm if you like, but itīs not required. first off, make sure you have a good patch on your pod. donīt use any EQ or compression after the amp though. edit: i originally wrote that you should have the signal as loud as possible without clipping, but this is apparently not such a good idea! you should have a good amount of headroom to your signal. donīt keep it "right below the roof"! insert the pod farm plug-in into the track youīre recording with. if you want to improve the gating, insert a gate in the signal chain. this is really awesome, as it helps the pre-distortion gate with cutting unwanted tails. adjust settings as you want. now, here comes the awesomeness: go to "guitar amps" and find the "power amp" unit. you might be a bit confused now, as this is not available on the actual pod or in gearbox. awesome, huh? the higher you turn the knob, the more tube-like your sound will be, but youīll sacrifice a teeny bit of tightness. find your ideal middle ground. i almost pissed my pants when i discovered this! i set it to full blast, adjusted the output setting in pod farm so that it wasnīt clipping anywhere (same output volume as the input volume), and just descended into chugga-chugga heaven! seriously, this should really be a unit on the pod! itīs a really good fix for everything that is wrong with the pod sound! itīs not perfect as far as accuracy goes, but it fixes the whole feel of the pod! ![]() so try it ASAP and tell me what you all think! -------------------------------------- What will metal be doing in ten years? Damn... I'd like to give that a try. Gives me another reason to finally upgrade to the X3. Is PodFarm similar to Gearbox?

it replaces the old gearbox plug-in. -------------------------------------- What will metal be doing in ten years? What ever Meshuggah will be doing in two. -Anthony |

You can't do the same thing purely in POD Farm?

you can do it entirely in pod farm, but youīd have to use two instances of pod farm instead of just the 1, because the power amp replaces the amp model if you only use 1.
and yeah, pod farm 1 is free with pod x3/x3l. pod farm 2 has a discount if you upgrade from pod farm 1 i think. -------------------------------------- What will metal be doing in ten years? What ever Meshuggah will be doing in two. -Anthony |

I posted this on the other forum so I'll put it here too, a little demo of what this does.
First half is just straight POD X3, the second half is with the POD X3's cab sims turned off and handled by POD Farm 2 along with the "Power Amp" model turned up a bit. SoundClick artist: Eleven59 - Heavy, acoustic, electronic, melodic, punky, emo, alternative. I'm not sure why or how, but I got both POD Farms for free

i think you get the upgrade for free if you got pod farm after a certain date. that would explain things!

In POD Farm, could you not just create a dual tone with the power amp running with your normal patch?
EDIT - Just attempted it, and you can definetly hear a difference. Sounds more natural. |

if you know how to route the signal out of tone 1 and into tone 2 within the plug-in, then yes. i donīt think thatīs possible though.

Ah right, i just took a 'good' tone for the top half of my dual tone and created a tone using the power amp for the lower half. It just sounds like a very clangy clean sound mixed with the lifeless distortion patch i made, making a fairly decent combination.

you didn't follow my instructions, did you?
![]() you're supposed to make a distorted tone, and then pass THAT through the power amp model ![]() the power amp model alone won't sound very different from an un-processed guitar sound. -------------------------------------- What will metal be doing in ten years? load up your preferred distorted tone. open up pod farm (or, if you're using pod farm for the distorted tone, a second pod farm instance after the first one), and add the power amp model. turn it all the way up, or maybe back it off just a little so it's at like 80-90%. adjust the output volume so it doesn't clip, and BAM!

I'm with you now dude, hopefully
![]() Loaded up POD Farm with my distorted tone and recorded some random crap into my DAW (Reaper) Then added another POD Farm as a virtual instrument on that track. Selected the power amp, and when you play back what you recorded you get the added power amp sound. That right? The Piezacoustic 2 model sounds good too |

itīs used as a plug-in like any other effect in the DAW right? thatīs what itīs supposed to be anyway
![]() as long as the distorted signal passes through the power amp model afterwards, it should do the job. -------------------------------------- What will metal be doing in ten years? What ever Meshuggah will be doing in two. -Anthony |

I have registered the pod x3 to my account too, even have a pod xt pro and a vetta II registered, haha. So what am I doing wrong here? |

hahah! why youīd even OWN a pod after getting an axe-fx i canīt even fathom! :P
you need to have the pod plugged in and turned on to use the plug-in, unless you have an ilok dongle. iīm thinking about getting one... -------------------------------------- What will metal be doing in ten years? What ever Meshuggah will be doing in two. -Anthony |

I actually sold my podxt pro when I got the axe.. But I kinda missed that fizzy little fellow, so I figured I'd get a used x3 bean, I almost only use the axe though. But it's nice to have a little backup, makes me sleep better at night, and it's really handy to bring around with you, even handier than the axe... and sometimes I just want to have a nasty processed sounding sound, you know?! haha.
Btw, I sold the whole "studio standard" pro tools crap bullshit and moved over to logic. Suits me waaaay better! The whole thing is just designed more... logical. If you know what I mean? :p Pro tools have always felt like a struggle to use for me, ilok/serials/mbox/rtas ... NO THANKS! |
