OK PODxt recording!!!

Im looking for a simple recording tool and the PODxt (althought i think its mostly for modeling) seems to be the thing to buy. i looked up the line6 rifftracker, which is specifically meant to record but im hesitant since i havent heard much about it. any thoughts?

Listen to Labyrinthine (formerly Black Despondency)

so everyone seems to like the xt. basically all i want is something i can make crappy to decent recordings with. and preferably program drums to the riffs. that was my main concern with the xt. does it have that feature?

no drum feature, but that's what the computer based drum-machines are for.

* David is trying out fruity loops tonight, and may just buy beatcraft

The PODxt has pretty decent sound, but I have found that it is a bit "two-dimensional" sounding for arrangements with lots of doubled and harmonized guitar parts. Its dynamic range isn't that great, and you really notice that in the rhythm guitar parts, I've found--basically, you lose the nuances.

For arrangements with just one or two guitar parts, though, you can do some great stuff with it.

I would beg to differ, i always use a lot of layers in my songs and i find that not only is the podxt good with many layers, but it is very responsive, dynamic and musical too. Now it may not sound quite as good as my vht with a tubescreamer in front, but its damn close imho, plus you dont take years setting it up and you can record quietly. This is the reason why even though i have a nice boutique amp and cab, i still rely on the podxt for recording and live situations!

Yeah, you have gotten some good results. I'm not planning on getting rid of my PODxt, but I need some other sound options, as well. My experience has been that all of the direct-recording boxes have a single basic 'sound'--not surprising, since it's the same DSP and op amps, regardless of which amp "model" you use--and that it really helps if you can use several different ones to help distinguish different guitar parts on the same track. For example, a couple of years ago I got some decent results recording rhythm guitars with a Digitech 2101 and leads with a V-Amp2. The PODxt by itself probably sounds better than either of those, but I've yet to make a recording using only the xt that I am particularly happy with.

when im just farting around at home hehe, im workign on some settings for live use, but the thing is i love the convenience of having everything controled from the push of a button on my pod's floorboard, wheras with the amp i would have to switch several things hehe...damn im lazy
