New Guitar = New Song In Progress

So, I figured I'd post up the first thing I recorded with my new Seagull S12+ 12-string acoustic. The only processing is a little comp/limit on the master to bring up the level. I have a 100% dry version that sounds exactly the same but quieter. The setup was me and my guitar about 1.5-ish feet from my Behringer B-2 Pro condensor straight into my M-Box. 4-tracks: rhythm left and right, lead left and right.

It's called "Never Sleep" and it'll have vocals at some point:

(sorry for the myspace whoring, I just don't have webspace anymore since I'm not in college anymore and can't access the server for my program anymore lol)

I like it! Kind of reminds me of '70s-era Genesis a little bit. Your 12-string work is great--very smooth and even.

Myspace whoring is no big deal--heck, look at my thread! It's nice to hear what other folks are doing.

Cool song.

How are you liking that Seagull? As far as I can tell, it sounds pretty much the same as mine. I'll have to see if I can dig up some old recordings for you to compare to.

BTW: Who is this?

I really liked it, and I think you might want to leave it alone(as far as vocals, not that yours are bad). I just think it sound really pretty with just the guitar playing and nothing else.

That would be Emma Acott. She was in my program at college. I played bass on her songs "Back Where I Started" and "Vixen", and played bass in her band live a few times, probably will again in the future. Great person to be around, extremely talented, and a great songwriter, with great taste in music (everything from pop to alternative to hardcore punk to metal).

haha, good for her. I listened to some of her stuff, she's got a great voice.

That's an excellent acoustic tone, too. Very... Hmm. Something about it reminds me of Opeth, god only knows why. I think it's the picking pattern...? Cool, either way.

Odd you should mention that, since the 6-string acoustic used on Blackwater Park (the whole album) was the 6-string version of this guitar (pretty much same miking technique too)

But yeah, definitely a huge Opeth influence in me these days. I've really gotta pick up Damnation.

man i could just imagine what comes next in this song... a descending 6 note measure leading into a heavy, not too fast not too slow type riff... could be quite awesome. i guess kind of like how Death's Pull the Plug starts, that descending thing at the beginning... nice tone from that seagull.
