Yeah, this'll be on a more mellow album, and it's done as far as length goes, but I definitely plan on having it blend with the next song.

But yeah, definitely a huge Opeth influence in me these days. I've really gotta pick up Damnation.
Yes you do.

That's an awesome video, and a strange one - you've got this incredibly haunting, melancholy song, and against that you set basically a documentary of the band hanging out in the studio, having a great time creating an album. It's strange... I like how the album version fades in against that single guitar track at the beginning, too - a cool touch.

Anyway, that explains why the tone is so Opeth-y.

Anyway dude, you inspired me - I've got this old Celtic tune I want to cover on my album that I finally sat down and recorded a backing for last night - nothing too complex, just an acoustic guitar figure, a higher-voiced variation thereof, a bassline, an simple 3/4 drum beat, and a couple tracks of ebow random harmony in the background that I can work out solo ideas and practice over, until I get a final arrangement. I've never really bothered to record more than 1 track of acoustic (well, two, but with two mics on the same performance) and it was kind of fun to stack acoustic tracks against each other.

Also, the idea of using one track as an intro for the second and having then segue is one I definitely approve of.

Also, thinking about that friend of yours, you know, I have a feeling that's something I'd REALLY enjoy, collaborating with a female singer/songwriter type and taking song ideas and orchestrating them into a whole sea of interlocking parts... I just wish I had a chick friend around here who had a great voice and wrote great material I could work with.

Yeah, it's a cool video. I love watching videos of bands in the studio because I can usually pick up some tricks

Yeah, I'm almost definitely going to get her to record some vocals/piano for my album. Depending on how serious I get about this album, I may book myself some studio time to put live drums on a few tracks and use the opportunity to get real piano on it as well. In fact, this song is partially inspired by one of her songs ("What Would You Do" on her myspace page).

Oh, and did I mention that her song "Vixen" that I played on was a full-out metal track?

No you didn't - good for her.

Eh, it's pretty rough, I did like one or two takes for, well, everything, max, and as such there's an occasional little hesitation here and there, and I totally winged the ebow lines. I also cut the acoustic parts with a Jazz III, which was probably a mistake - I almost always reach for thinner picks, lol. If you want, I can send you the backer, it's nothing too crazy but it's really a very pretty song. It'll be rather a while before I record a lead for it, though, I suspect - it's one of those melody lines that's so perfect that you're just afraid to play it because you don't think you can do it justice...
