New Idoler EP Track Posted! old tune w/ new mix/tone! Crushing Djent!! (POD X3, DFHS)

MIX HAS BEEN UPDATED w/teh FATNESS!!! 11/05/09

i didn't want to start a new thread for this...so if anyone gets back to this one by any chance and checks it out, let me know what you guys think!

**original message**
hey dudes, due to some unfortunate circumstances i haven't been too active on the forum lately, but i have a butt-load of new material and after chatting with a few ss.orgers i was inspired to get back on the horse and post something! yay! so before i record a new track i wanted to get a "crushing" mix and tone for it, so i rerecorded "Relentless!" some of you might have heard this tune, but i think it's muuuch better now, it's like a whole new song imo! haha! anyway, hope you guys dig it!

this is the fifth song for the EP duders, and is also very close to being the final mix for the whole thing!

Cheers dudes!

"Relentless" of uber Fatness!!!(Updated mix)

This song is awesome! I really like the drum programming, and the guitar tone is incredible.

though the snare seems to lack power (imo). especially compared to the MONSTROUS guitars. sounds a little distant. everything else is fuckin' perfection.

Nah the volume is fine. I didn't mean power as in presence, I just meant thickness / fatness. I'm very particular with snares though and basically only like one type of sound so it could just be some random douche sharing a personal preference (in this case the douche being me) but yeah, I just think it needs some fatness. It sounds like it's tuned tight as a nun's asshole and being struck with a writing pen.

Oh and I didn't mean distant as in too far back behind the mix, I just meant that it sounds as if the mic used to capture it was too far away. There's a lot of "space" between where it's been struck and where it's been received. This is just how it sounds, I realize it's MIDI and that the sample was probably recorded fine.

If you listen to your mix for a bit and then cut straight to any of the following mixes you might see what I mean.

SoundClick artist: Chad Haynes Solo - Check out my music! Leave comments! - My snare sound.
SoundClick artist: Bulb - Hello! I am Bulb! Enjoy the tunes! - Bulb's snare.
SoundClick artist: Chimp Spanner - Progressive rock, metal and fusion from your friendly neighbourhood simian. - Chimp_Spanner's snare.

All different artists with different snares, but they all have more fatness than yours. A quality they share and thus something I felt worthy of pointing out.

Not to take away from your efforts though, shit sounds HUGE / awesome. The first panned guitar sounds like it might be clipping a little, but I'm not 100% sure that it's not just that I've got my headphone amp set on too high. Other mixes I listen to don't do that though so you might double check.

sliggy- umm, thanks, but the DW snare tends to be a bit more pappy as opposed to the huge smack of the sonor or pearl snare in dfhs. i guess we'll just chalk it up to preference for this particular track...i like to experiment. if you listen to my last track on my soundclick page "At Your Se7en" you'll notice the snare has more "power" and "smack." but for this track, i wanted a tight and bouncy snare sound. thanks for the feedback though dude.

turd85- thank you sir!

Yeah I'm a close-minded fool when it comes to snare tones. Just thought I'd throw it out there. The track's fucking awesome though dude, great job!

Listening to both the old and new mix. This one definitely sounds VERY polished and wholesome. What can I say... your new mix beats the crap out of the old one. Seriously.
