So I Covered This Awful Guitarist

Long story short, there's this annoying guy in the metal scene here who thinks he's the shit. Despite being atrocious, he find his way into bands and people even stick up for his music.

He has his material copyrighted and even has music videos. I covered one of the worse ones, mainly to see if I could do any better.

I had to change it up a little from the original so it wouldn't become hideously boring and I think my solo is actually worse than his.

This is on a $0 budget. Guitar straight into my little mic socket, going into reaper with a pirated copy of DKFH and an 8505/TSE X30 and a bass emulator, I can't actually remember which one. I had to borrow a bass to do it.

Anyway, if you have an opinion I'd love to hear it. Good or bad. Anything that might help me make a better mix would be especially appreciated.

Everything in this thread makes me cry. The music video especially. I'm totally posting it on /b/ and making this man an icon for absolute lameness.

Now, onto constructive criticisms:

Your mix needs many things, but first and foremost you MUST TURN THE GUITARS DOWN! Seriously dude those drums are barely audible. They're just like ticks in the background. There's far too much distortion on your tone and it's too fat / bassy.

I will say you're possibly a better player than him. At least you play in time. He's so out it makes baby Jesus cry.

It's no wonder he disabled ratings / comments.

Terrible song LOL.

But yeah dude, don't go parading this around to one-up him just yet. You've still got a ways to go yourself young padawan

i think production wise it was better and you played in time. however i really hope this guy doesnt act like hes amazing because i watched the whole video and almost none of it was mind boggling. he practically stayed in e minor with the tritone the WHOLE song. anyways just a pet peeve of mine, please dont pirate software, people work hard on this stuff.

Unfortunately this out of sync, off time attempt gives reason for jokes like this^

It would also help if he turned his guitar levels down so he can actually listen to the drums that are supposed to be keeping time.

OP your version sounds good. good tone, it almost sounds like a whole different tune.

LOL, the drums sound like a metronome. xD

there's a lot of bass going on tonally. might want to drop your bass behind your guitars a smidge, and drop ALL the instruments to match the drums volume-wise. try to make sure you can hear each individual drum part. i can hear the hi-hat, so that must not be a problem.

Sorry guys, if I have to choose between eating and doing demos I choose to eat. I do actually feel bad about it, I even feel bad about not paying for Reaper.

I plan on buying superior drummer 2.0 because I like DFH so at least some good has come out of it.

Thanks for the mix advice, I didn't really notice the levels at first but yes, I definitely hear it now! I'll try sticking up a revised version later.
