Back when I was in high-school, we used to steal chem lab equipment and make steam rollers and bongs, etc. Nothing a glass cutter and a torch can't take care of. But we were building, adventurous type stoners. Not to be confused with zombie corpse humping stoners.

And, I'm pretty sure smoking out of tin foil is pretty terrible for you. Welcome to Mesotheliaoma!

I think my favorite design was the gas-can hookah(sp)

Ingredients:

1 5 gallon gas can
1 1-1/2inch steal water line (for drinking) <-- this will depend on the mouth of the gas can.
1/2 inch plastic water line ( for remote drinking stations like a poland spring bottle for your sink)
Some compression flanges and threaded adaptors for the the water line.
Epoxy for the spout
You can get creative, with a slide or screen or w/e.

we made an awful lot of crap back in the day.

edit- I don't really know if you can get anything serious from smoking out of tin foil, though it will release vaporized particulate. What it is and what it will do to you, I cannot say.
