Austrian city asking for polite cellphone use - International Herald Tribune

In my opinion there is nothing more annoying than that person who holds up the line at the grocery store or gas station because they are too busy with their cell phone to pay attention to what they are doing. I have noticed where I live that in resturants like Subway, where you are being asked continuous questions about your order, have posted signs that they will not serve you until all cell phone conversations are ended. I personally think it is a good idea. What does everyone else think about this??

I agree. I'll talk on my phone while in line, but when I get to the front, I tell the person I'll call them back later. It is simply common courtesy.

Good. If you really need to talk on the phone, step outside. Simple as that.

If I DO talk to someone on my cellphone in a store, I'm quiet about it, and usually end up telling them after a minute i'll call them back when I'm not in a store. But some of those self-important, loud-mouthed idiots need to STFU. Nothing annoys my more than when I'm in a quiet department store and someones howling on their phone.

When I worked a register at a craft store, people talking on their phones made it REALLY difficult to help them, and they would get pissed when they would randomly start talking to me, and I wouldn't respond because I thought they were still on the phone.

I refuse to use a cell phone other than the one my unit assigned me, and it is for official use only. That's just me though. I really hate having private conversations in public, and I really can't stand being subjected to someone else's either. Common courtesy isn't.
