I've actually heard a school of thought that the mark on the beast of the people is figurative. Some people see it as an allusion to Dueteronomy 11:18 and see it as not a literal mark, but as having your mind concentrated on it.

Yeah, I think that's most people on the board

But I think it might be more referring to simply submitting to the government the Beast supposedly sets up, in which case most of us would hypothetically be alright because we're not the type to blindly follow a government, at least not from what I've seen on P&CE.
