The half pence, I totally forgot about that! You are right, of course. We got rid of those because we didn't need them. Seriously, with as much as people use credit, then you can suck it up and pay two cents more if you pay cash.

we used to have single "øre" here. basically, 100 øre in one Krone, with Krone being the base unit, and the øre being fractions of that.

then it was reduced to 5 øre and 10 øre and 50 øre, and now we´re getting rid of the Øre altogether! :P

so without the 50 øre, we´ll have 1 krone, 5 kroner, 10 kroner, 20 kroner in the coins department, and then 100 kroner, 200 kroner, 500 kroner and finally 1000 kroner in the bills department.

i like how norway deals with things like these :P

If getting rid of the penny is so appealing (to save money, hassle or what not), then why don't we start issuing our own moneys instead of letting a central bank do it for us?
I mean not only do we (the tax payers) pay to have moneys minted and printed, but then we borrow it with interest. How good of a scam is that.

Admittedly I don't fully understand the taxing / pricing scheme you're talking about, but that right there is exactly what we do here. Seems to work fine.

If you guys don't use SI units, I don't like your chances of getting rid of pennies either.

i'd be all for getting rid of the penny. if it costs too much to make the money, i don't see why it would be such an argument or fight to have the composition changed. i think if vending machines accepted pennies then more people would use them i suppose.

Oh noez! Where would Lincoln go?!?

Seriously, I'd say we could lose the penny. Granted, that means that % of sales tax (that is different from state to state, and sometimes from city to city) will change somewhat. Vermont has 6% sales tax... would buying a $1 item suddenly cost $1.10? Or would it go to $1.05? How about Williston, which is a town in VT where sales tax is 7%?
