This is one of the many reasons that I don't watch sports. My girl thinks she is the luckiest woman on the planet, snagging someone who never, ever turns on ESPN.

I don't blame her! In Scotland, they have the Glasgow Rangers and the Celtics, two rival football (soccer) teams, and they HATE eachother, get caught wearing the 'wrong team' colours in the wrong part of town, and you've got problems.....Comedians like Billy Connolly ( from Glasgow,Scotland) make fun about it all the time, about people running for their lives when they are suddenly surrounded by guys who like the other team, its more than a game to people like that, its like their bloody identity.

People are retarded. Just give them something to beleive in. Sports, religion, ICP (juggalows/ettes). The human race should have an IQ test at 18 and whoever fails should be shot in the head.

Frowning upon elite athletic competition because of a few yahoos out there who take things too far seems silly reason to dislike sports. Of course the story is disgusting, and Nerina is right. It is pathetic when sports fans take things so far that it becomes their identity. Pride in something you had nothing to do with is always nauseating (nationalism, race, etc). But for most people it's just the love of the game, the fun of it.

I guess you missed the "one of many reasons" part. Other reasons include steroids, overpaid whiny players, shift of focus from team performance to the individual, playing the sport is far more fun than watching the sport, and last but not least, watching three hours worth of the same thing is incredibly fucking boring.

I wish the world's best high school teachers got paid one tenth of what the world's best baseball players made.
