Thus is the problem with general statements but the thing about general statements is that there is usually a shred of truth to them. While you are correct that religion is not the "cause" of these issues it is used as a type of medium for the propagation of such deeds. I think that is the problem that some of us tend to have with organized religion.

It's a fine line. I have no problem with people practicing whatever religion they want to given a few caveats. Don't hurt anyone while you're "practicing" your religion, and don't pass judgment on others and try to "save" them. Personally those combined with the observation that too many people are willing to accept what their "taught" without thinking for themselves is what turns me off of it.

Don't get me wrong, I know "the church" also does a lot of good. I just believe that those things should be deemed basic human civility and not "religious belief". It's a great means of providing a good moral foundation. I just get annoyed when it becomes a hammer to beat down the heretics.
