![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Miss Britain finalist says Its Okay To Be Fat... A role model for ordinary women? No, Miss England finalist is fat, lazy and a poster girl for ill health | the Daily Mail ...but a nutrionist disagrees. I agree with the person who wrote the article. It is not okay to be fat, like this beauty pagent contestant. It is fine to have a normal, healthy build, you don't need to be a size zero, and so on, but this girl is clearly overweight both visually, and scientifically (her BMI is 26 while her healthy BMI should be 20). I find it disturbing enough that overweight people are becoming more and more and more common in Western society; but I would find it even more disturbing if it suddenly became fashionable to be overweight and unhealthy. _________________________ "Ah, she's built like a steakhouse but she handles like a bistro" - ZB My Soundclick Page |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Argh this annoys me! I don't like how the media pressures girls AND guys into becoming incredibly vain about themselves, no one NEEDS to be a size 0 and no one NEEDS a 6-pack of abs. Of course, if the individual wants to look like that they can, it's upto the individual. However, promoting someone positively when they are clearly obese, and almost praising them because they don't fit the general stereotype of what the media portrays men and women to be like, isn't the answer. Look at the singer of "The Gossip"...not long ago she was being praised for being over weight and being proud of it? Sure it sends the message that you should be happy with your body no matter what you look like, but at the same time it's also promoting the 'Why care?' attitude that leads to people becoming over-weight despite knowing of the health risks... She seems to be trying to make herself come off as a bit of a role-model in the sense that she isn't like the other competitors and she is larger, however her ignorant statement of "It's ok to be fat" frustrates me because she is basing it on nothing, especially not scientific fact. ![]() Her ignorance is as damaging as the portrayal of how women 'should be' in the media. More words here is more words. |
