Geraldine Ferraro, Clinton campaigner -- "Obama is lucky to be black"

Ferraro vigorously defends remarks - First Read - msnbc.com

Geraldine Ferraro is a former vice presidential candidate and current campaigner for Hillary Clinton -- one of her closest confidants and colleagues.

Here's what she said recently:

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

This sparked outrage from just about everyone -- except Clinton. She simply said she disagreed and left it at that.

Then today, Geraldine defended herself, saying,

Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up," Ferraro said. "Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?"

Wow.

Just WOW. Not only does she spew vile, racist venom on behalf of Clinton, but she goes so far as to accuse anyone who disagrees with her to be a sexist racist who hates her because she's white.

And the best part?

Clinton, who DEMANDED that Obama denounce Farrakhan, simply "disagress" and thinks this is being used to "divert attention from the issues".

Hillary is evil.

I swear Hillay has gather a group of high profile idiots to advise her. When Obama's foreign policy adviser called Clinton a monster, she was gone quickly. So when is Ferraro is going to resign?

I'm not sure they are racist remarks as much as they are bullshit remarks. Possibly Obama would pick up some votes in the African American community but he is likely to have just as many if not more people not vote for him solely based on the colour of his skin. Yes peoples attitudes have changed but I doubt that people would vote for a President simply because he was black as much as them voting for one because he was green or pink.

I can think of real advantages that he has over Hilary such as his perceived innocence and the course Hilary's campaign has took recently.

When the tables are turned, it's no big deal. When she's the one fielding the heat, it's far less of an issue than when she's the one dealing it.

I agree with Carvel's take on this: the race as of late has become about what the adviser's are saying--and whether it merits firing them--rather than the candidates and the issues. It's ridiculous.

Geraldine Ferraro is yesterday's news. Does anyone who is NOT over 40, a long time, dyed in the wool Democrat care what she thinks?
