| The Catholic Church has always opposed stem cell research and cloning and the such. This is just them finishing up the paperwork. The Catholic Church makes a lot of statements and lobby but their political power ain't what it was. Also it helps to not confuse fundamentalist Christians with Catholics. A lot of the fundamentalists hate Catholics with a passion. Hell a lot of mainstream Protestants hate Catholics.
