But yeah, the BBC said something last night about how America only had a certain time window in which to shoot the thing down.

And that they had a problem with China doing the same thing in the past. However, they also mentioned that this satellite could've leaked potentially harmful chemicals into the atmosphere if it got too close so to destroying it before it became a health/environmental problem.

* DelfinoPie would like to point out he doesn't know the exact circumstances of this whole event, it was heard on passing on a round-up of the headlines of the day. He also doesn't know all of the circumstances surrounding the Chinese satellite.

I think we're probably on the same page with this overall. If this was a genuine case of averting a possible environmental and personal tragedy I'm all for it, and I genuinely admire the skills and intelligence of the guys who crunched the numbers and got it all happening (was it you, Chris? ). If it's the US flexing at China then it's an awful waste of taxpayer funds. The truth is probably somewhere in between I do wonder about the envinmental impact of firing one of those missiles

We all know US military spending is absolutely obscene right now, at a time where you guys seem to have some serious internal issues. Freedom may not be free, but you can't simply buy it with weapons. A truly free people should be foremost educated, healthy and safe within their borders. I hope post-Bush all this gets sorted out.

Regardless, that's not what this thread is about and I don't really have the time nor inclination for it
