Thumbs down Oil prices are going up.....

U.S. gasoline price soars past $3 a gallon: government | U.S. | Reuters

Anybody think this might be one of the reasons?
Exxon Mobil cut off from Venezuela's oil - CNN.com

This definately isn't going to help anyone's money problems or the economy if people can't afford to go to work because gas is so expensive.

And I'm sure Exxon and all the other big oil companies are still going to be turning huge profits nomatter oil supplies.

Whew. For a second there, I thought thousands of Shell employees would be out of work. I mean, they only posted a TWENTY SIX BILLION DOLLAR PROFIT last year.

I'm no economist but...isn't this just the law of supply and demand?

In fact I've always heard that if you take it into perspective, gas is less expensive now than it was 10 and 20 years ago.

Edit: So what if they made a profit? That's what businesses are supposed to do.

Supply and demand and blatant price gouging because they can are two different things. It'd be like the price of milk going up to $25 a gallon. Would you still buy it and say "so what, they're a business"?

Right.

Also that is profit NOT revinue. They made $26 billion AFTER they paid for new equipment, technology, legal fees, all their employees, power, etc.. $26 billion is just what they had left over.
