Bush is an incredible asshole. Torture doesn't work. It's illegal. The only reason a government would engage in torture is because they are either mad with power, sadistic or both. My money's on both.

Perino said the United States does not currently use waterboarding, a simulated drowning technique denounced by rights groups as torture, even though the CIA has admitted using the technique in the past.

She reiterated the administration's assertion last week that it would not rule out the use of such techniques in the future.

The Senate bill would limit the CIA and other intelligence agencies to the 19 interrogation techniques outlined in the military's manual. Waterboarding is not among them.

Perino said the intelligence community's view is that the Army Field Manual sets an inappropriate standard for seasoned CIA interrogators who are working to extract information from sophisticated militant operatives.

"Today with this bill that they are sending to us they would basically repeal the terrorist interrogation program in favor of something that will definitely weaken our ability to protect the country," Perino said.

"This Army Field Manual is something that is public for all to see, and we know that Al-Qaeda trains to resist interrogation techniques such as those."

So, it's not ok for Army to torture, but it is ok for the CIA to torture? Oh, wait, I forgot that only Al-Queda operative suspects, who are all guilty until proven innocent, are the only people on the entire planet who are trained to resist torture. So, it is ok to torture them. Even though we don't torture. So, we're not going to talk about the future, since it happened after 9/11, and nothing after 9/11 is relevant.

Rival Democratic White House hopefuls Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were on the road campaigning and did not take part in the vote Wednesday.

The likely Republican nominee, Arizona Senator John McCain, voted against the bill. The former prisoner of war however said that his vote was consistent with his anti-torture stance.

"We always supported allowing the CIA to use extra measures," he said. "I believe waterboarding is illegal and should be banned," McCain said.

I was tortured, and I don't believe in torture. Except the CIA, because the torturing they do isn't torture, which I oppose, but will not sign a bill forbidding it, since that torture isn't the torture I oppose, even though it is called the same thing.

Which TV commentator said that torture has never been an effective means of extracting THE TRUTH.

It's merely a way of forcibly coercing someone to say what the torturer wants to hear.

It sickens me that Bush has the power (and the nerve) to essentially approve torture. And i'm amazed that American citizens haven't stormed the White House with whatever weapons you can lay hands on.

This is a sad, sad time in American history.

Its cause most americans dont give a fuck. If people actually listened to the news, it'd be a lot different. Most people dont think bush is 'too bad'. Its a fucking letdown.

Some policial a-hole was on the radio the other day saying that it's okay for the CIA to torture these people because they might blow up a building...

I'd like to know how in the hell a dude, Islamic or not, can blow up a building from inside a cell in a prison camp in Gitmo!

If we torture our prisoners the same way the Nazis did in World War II, I have to begin to give up on the political viability of this country and declare a state of nature, with no legitimate government to uphold the rule of law.

We need to interrogate terrorists, and we need to stay within the law, so... clearly, we should allow horrible, inhuman acts in the law so that they can be morally justified to help Jack Bauer fight the ter'ristes.

I watched Senator Lindsey grill a brigadier general who refused to answer whether Iran waterboarding US troops would be considered torture.

I seriously hope you guys aren't subjected to another 4 years of tyranny. I really do. The American people deserve a leader, not a tyrant.
