Most people in Mexico, Central America, and South America are a mixture of Spaniard and native American. So Noodles' post about them being natives is incorrect since they are only part native (if you're thinking in blood) and they were natives of central America or South America, not the US or Canada.

Granted, the illegal immigrant issue is one of the least important at the moment, but it still is an issue that needs to be dealt with at some time.

There's actually been plenty of shit done about it, just no one enforces it. there's around 12 migrant worker programs in effect currently.

Illegal imigration IMO just boils down to a law enforcement issue. I really have no problem with them wanting to live and work here. But they need to go through the process and abide by the laws of the country

It's mainly dishonest American employers who let this happen, so I really don't blame the Mexican workers for doing this...I probably would too. The laws of the country just need to be enforced.

I diagree. Before the move west, there were no borders between Mexico, America, and Canada, because that land was not actully part of the United States. Mexicans are really no different from Native Americans, as they are, in fact, Native Americans. How many "pure blooded" Native Americans do you know? What about English? Spanish? Itallian? Irish? German? It's all mixed at this point.

The point I was trying to make is, white Americans keeping out darker skinned Mexicans is a cruel twist of fate, since they have more of a right to be on this land than we do. They actually have their roots here, and they are only mixed with Spanish blood because they had no choice in the matter. A more technically advanced culture imposed their will upon them.

What is done is done, and I'm not advocating a reversion to pre-1492. I'm just saying that the issue is a lot more sensitive than most people want to treat it. At one point in our history, many poor southerners blamed cheaper blacks from taking their jobs, as if the former slaves asked to be dragged from their homes and forced into bondage in a foreign land. We think of ourselves as countrymen before human beings, which makes us a pretty shitty race.

The REAL issue with Illegal Immigration isn't the workers, per se...


It's that they represent a corporate lever to drive down wages. They say, "They do jobs Americans aren't willing to do." Well, only PARTLY true. We're willing to do them, just not for $1 an hour!

It's a huge issue. Huge. But as long as the Corporate masters are allowed to basically hire these people for what amounts to illegal wages, then nothing will change.

Personally, I like Mike's solution: charge employers a $250,000 fine per incident. So, if a Wallmart gets caught employing ten illegal immigrants, than is $2,500,000 in fines.

No one would hire anyone illegal, since the cost would be too steep. The powers that be don't want to actually fix the problem, though.
