now, i'm NOT siding with Bush on this, because i KNOW for a fact that he doesn't know his history. from what i've learned in history classes (i'm a mild history buff), the Allies didn't know there were so many prisoners at Auschwitz. hell, they didn't even know it was a concentration camp. the Axis powers did a pretty good job of keeping that place under wraps.

The decision not to bomb Auschwitz during WWII was, and still is a bit of a moral dilemma.

By not bombing the camp, or the railroads leading to the camp, the Allies allowed whatever was going on at Auschwitz to continue. (no one truly knew the true horror until after the fact - there were some accounts, but nobody really paid a lot of attention.)

If the decision was made to bomb the camp, it would render the facility useless. However, collateral damage would be quite high, and since there were other camps around, it may not have even stopped the Nazis from their genocide. Bombing the railroads would minimize the death of innocents, and would have probably been a good idea. But then again, there is no guarantee that other camps would not pick up the slack.

Also, strategically speaking, an attack on the camp would divert attention and resources from other Allied operations. For example, they could bomb the camp, or liberate a city, but can't do both.

It's a "you're damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. What's the right answer? Nobody knows.

Men in 1940s nobody even knew in USA that there were such camps and after 10 years when emigrants from Europe were talking stories about then noone believed them.

Also Polish AK soldiers tried few times to blast railroads that were heading to Auschwitz camp. In revenge nazis executed people from few villiges that were near the place and burn everything down, few house will live people inside.

Nazis all the time were using "collective responsibility" so I just don't want to think how this "bombing Auschwitz" would end up for Poland

to be totally fair, i can understand what he means with the bush-hating bandwagon kinda thing going on. The fact of the matter is that a lot of uninformed people hate bush based on a lot of generalities and i personally know a lot of people who would jump on any chance to say how much they hate Bush, even if he did something fuckin right. And i, for one, think it's the same stupid sheep mentality that makes people flock to organized religion without really know anything about the bible or has tons of hipsters becoming vegetarians or vegans when they don't really give two shits about animals or the environment. I've been guilty of it myself, but i still think it's stupid and i think he wasn't all wrong in calling people on it. Just not Dave... Cuz well. Dave is pretty much always right. lol
