No idea what you're talking about.

And quoting my post and editting it just isn't cool, Eric.

Bush wants to bomb something? Who'd have thunk it?

Now, now, calm down.

Bush does not want to currently bomb Auschwitz.

The decision not to bomb Auschwitz during WWII was, and still is a bit of a moral dilemma.

By not bombing the camp, or the railroads leading to the camp, the Allies allowed whatever was going on at Auschwitz to continue. (no one truly knew the true horror until after the fact - there were some accounts, but nobody really paid a lot of attention.)

If the decision was made to bomb the camp, it would render the facility useless. However, collateral damage would be quite high, and since there were other camps around, it may not have even stopped the Nazis from their genocide. Bombing the railroads would minimize the death of innocents, and would have probably been a good idea. But then again, there is no guarantee that other camps would not pick up the slack.

Also, strategically speaking, an attack on the camp would divert attention and resources from other Allied operations. For example, they could bomb the camp, or liberate a city, but can't do both.

It's a "you're damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. What's the right answer? Nobody knows.

Bombing a camp full of prisoners has no upside. Bombing Auschwitz would have been a colossal mistake.

Where did you get the impression that anyone here thought he was talking about bombing it now?

We're talking about the 1940s. Precision bombing was a concept yet to be imagined. The chances of hitting some railroad tracks with bombs dropped from a plane was slim to none. The chances of success were so low that it didn't even make it worth attempting. Most of the discussion involved bombing the gas furnaces and support buildings, but once again, we lacked the technology to ensure that we'd hit them, and not the prisoner barracks.

Heh. Ok, sure.
Bush apologist? Hardly. I hate the guy as much as everyone else. He's not the first person to say that the camp should have been bombed though.

Was it right to bomb Iraq? Or was it a mistake?

On one hand, a dictator was overthrown.
On the other, it came at the cost of thousands of soldiers, hundreds of thousands of civilians and a shit load of money.

Try looking at it from a greater-good perspective. Is it worth killing a thousand people to save a million? Or should the thousand live, and perhaps doom the million?

The problem is that there is no concrete answer that is right. One could argue for days about it.

It seems that everyone is perfectly happy with "Duhhh....Bush is a moron! Everything he says is stupid!" though, so be it.
