![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Are we really so afraid of being labeled "Racist"? I can't help but notice this phenomena, and while I'm sure it's nothing new to any of us, it might be interesting to discuss. Over on my other thread about the Mohammed Bear, Nick had made a point about how second generation Muslims in the UK, and he qualified his remarks with: Quote:
Another example of this was when I was talking to a friend of mine in the pub one night, and we were discussing movies, I mentioned how I was watching a lot of Japanese movies, to which he said that he hasn't really seen many apart from the odd Jackie Chan film. I mentioned that Jackie Chan was Chinese, and he just kinda blurted out how he wasn't racist or anything and that he was sorry. It's freakin' crazy. For me, racism is something conscious, not some meaningless little faux pas. But people are still terrified of being labeled with the "R" word, I see it constantly on message boards and in real life where any issue dealing with people of another race is brought up, it's really very tip-toed around, or just ignored at lot of the time, and even when people would say something, it's phrased as politely as possible. And I think in the long run, this is going to have a seriously negative effect for all involved, and it can even been seen right now. For example, here in Ireland, there was a gap in the jobs market, so a lot of immigrants came from Eastern Europe and filled the gap, and everyone was happy. But there was, and still isn't any control over immigration, and I remember reading how there was hundreds of Eastern Europeans homeless on the streets of Dublin alone! Perhaps if there was some form of immigration control, things like this could be averted, but the word immigration is like a dirty word here in Ireland, and nobody wants to talk about it, or do anything about it, because it's seen as "Racist"! God damn political correctness... What do you think guys?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Completely, completely agree. I think it's a big part of why discourse breaks down so easily anymore. Everyone is so quick to get offended. I heard someone mention "white guilt" before, and I think that hits the nail on the head. http://www.wolf.org |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Since I've been in college and have been going to a more urban environment where there's many different people from different ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds (I've lived in the suburbs all my life), I've noticed this "tippy-toe" effect a lot more. There is so much fear in offending someone or some party that there just isn't any conversation about any of these subjects anymore. I find it sad that I can't seem to discuss this with my peers or other students without having them tone their voice down to negative 10 decibels and look around acting paranoid. To be honest in some respects I would think for most its very hypocritical and its more of a fear of getting your ass kicked then offending somebody (in the student body that surrounds me anyway). ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think there's a lot of the "white guilt" factor in play, and that many people pull the "race card" to stir up a fuss. I just dont' see why I can't call a Chinese person Chinese, or a Mexican person a Mexican. It's all silly. We're part of the Human race with many different nationalities...so what's the big deal? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | race is entirely anthropologic and cultural. genetically speaking race is entirely trend-based, and has no true definitions. but yes i whole heartedly agree. everyone gets offended too easily. so, some people use that to their advantage and aim to offend to stir up muck. its horrible im totally in love with a mexican girl who is very involved with her heritage, but she is willing to listen. but i have an issue with mexican culture around here. hell alot of my mexican friends have issues with parts of the culture. i wont go into depth cause this isnt the time or place (and im drunk), but fact is that if i say anything, in most situations, the racist card starts flying like jj's cum in a daycare. its holding development. instead of listening when someone brings up a problem, people just freakout and start calling names. its bullshit. i couldnt agree more Reverse Headstocks or Bust Dude...i just got a spam email that was titled "Funky date rape trick" -Zepp88 I just got another funny email "Her pussy smiled at me" -Zepp88 Don't tell me you haven't heard of Raptor Jesus It's important that you know this information :headnod: It will decide your fate when we are pwned. -JoeOvChaosI was going KAT KAT KAT KAT and you were going KAT... chk... I know what you're talking about but tread softly, there tends to be some dissention between the Spanish speaking peoples of Middle America, but it's SUCH touchy subject.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | exactly, i think thats a large point of the thread. i think its crap that one has to tread softly. political correctness has reached a level where it is holding everyone back, instead of keeping things civil so they can keep moving forward. its become just as nasty as what its intended to prevent as far as the mexico thing. its not even a cultural issue. i really like what ive learned of mexican culture. but when you try to mention anything that seems backwards, like all the political corruption, people just go off accusing you of talking shit about thier culture. sorry but there is nothing cultural about that. culture is not bad. but all this other crap gets called culture when it is not. or, cultural issues get abused and people get hurt over it, in ways that it should not be used. its really unfortunate. and i wish these issues didnt exist. im so tired of political correctness. i had an english teacher with a politically correct book of fairy tales. it proved a good point PC has become a problem it really bothers me, because i am a massive pacifist, and donate more than i can afford to trying to solve alot of these issues. but as soon as you make suggestiosn, people get angry at you. its sad |

![]() | i agree, every one is proud of his background and people, but if you mention his race or the origin of his people you will be called "R" i think this "R" thing stayed sinsitive since the 2nd world war and thats why still people dont want to talk about others races and origins. but again if the chat was about japanese/chinese films, then no one should feel any racisim in the subject. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Read Kerouac. Brilliant, brilliant writer. But... everyone is a "negro", "colored", "fag", you name it. Very un-PC, and refreshingly so. Man, I could care less if someone called me a Kraut-Mick. Just don't treat me bad, that's all I ask. But people are too sensitive over words, especially when there isn't a specific ill intent involved. It's great that people are aware of when their words can be harmful, but now everything should be censored because of it? |
