Luka Magnotta, aka "Canadian Psycho"

So, I'm sure a lot of you guys have heard about this guy by now, but just to recap, the insanity this man has committed is almost cinematic in scope.

So, timeline:

On May 29th, the police are called to the headquarters of the Conservative Party of Canada after they received a dismembered human foot in the mail. Later that day, the police announce they've also found a package in sorting at Canada Post containing a human foot. This package was being sent to the Liberal Pary of Canada. Elsewhere in Montreal, they find a human torso in a briefcase in a trash pile at an apartment building.

The police are able to determine that all the body parts belonged to the same person, an asian male. They cross-referenced this with a video that appeared on the internet a few days earlier, which showed an asian man being murdered on camera with an ice pick, and then goes on to show the murderer raping the man's corpse. They further cross reference this video to a string of videos that appeared on Youtube starting in 2010 which depicted a man torturing and murdering cats. With this evidence, the police are able to determine the identity of the killer: Luka Magnotta.

The plot thickens from there. It comes to light that Luka Magnotta *might* have dated Karla Homolka, the girlfriend and accomplice of another notorious Canadian serial killer, Paul Bernardo. Police also find a series of blog posts by Magnotta detailing essentially "how to disappear," such as the process or obtaining fake ID's and things like that. From there, they discover that he had skipped the country just before he was discovered, having boarded a plane to Europe. So, they had Interpol issue an international warrant for his arrest.

Finally, he was arrested by police in Berlin, Germany on June 4. He had been located at an internet cafe, looking at nude photos of himself (he was a porn actor by trade).

The ice pick video was up online atleast 2-3 days before the incident at parliament or before this story even made the news, but otherwise a pretty decent description of what's been going on lol.

Psychologists and Social Science types would kill (lawl) to get their hands on this guy and study him

The thing that bothers me is that it is fuel for the "OMG THE WORLD IS INS4NE AND CRAZY AND ZOMBIES AND CANNIBALS!!!!1!!!" crowd.

There always have been nasty things around, they just surface more frequently - and graphic - thanks to the internet and new media in general. And people seem to get off on looking at that stuff, now that it's all more or less available to everyone. But cases like this one are so rare that they get all the attention. So - no, the world is not going crazy and there really was only one incidenct of someone eating another guys face in the past few weeks, so we're good. For now.

What makes this case exceptional is the sheer visibility of it. Not only did he make a video of himself actually committing the murder, he then cut up the body and mailed the parts to various political parties. While the guy obviously has some strange ideas, he obviously wasn't under some sort of psychosis (unlike the zombie crowd) and knew exactly what he was doing.

I agree, it's been a long term development in his case, his kind of psychosis reminds me of Breivik, they both seem to show that total awareness of their actions.

He did send body parts to different parties, so at least the left/right wing stereotype will be left out this time. In this case it's more like a "general attention whore" thing.

The visibility in general, well, afaik all of the 1 lunatic 1 ice pick hosters still had to deal with a ton of traffic.

For what it is it seems to be the breakthrough video for gore vids just as much as 2 girls 1 cup was the breakthrough for awkward porn vids. It's interesting to see how these kind of videos find a mass appeal, I mean there even are some "my reaction to the 1 lunatic....-video" clips on youtube. Real gore never has been more public....

Yea, I think he put it into his blog. Guess he missed the "Don't be an attention whore and post shit all over the internet" part

That said, I'd say it's a good thing that that happened, the police found him pretty damn quick, prevents more people getting killed.

It wouldn't surprise me, apparently that's part of his shtick. He fabricates sensationalist stories that involve himself and uses the anonymity of internet to make it appear as if they're coming from semi-legitimate sources. Karla Homolka IS that screwed up. She actually helped Paul Bernardo rape her own 15 year old sister multiple times, the last time which resulted in her death.

He was said to be there around that time, so it wouldn't be that surprising. We might have never made the link to him if it wasn,t that someone found stuff at his appartment. He might be a serial killer already.

They also think that the head of his last victim could had been shipped to China. It might never get there, but that would just make him even sicker (if thats possible at this point)

Out of curiosity I watched the first minute of the video. I have to say, if you have not seen it and wish to, don't. It is seriously very disturbing and incredibly sickening to watch. I sincerely wish I hadn't found it.

And thank god this guy was caught. People like that need to be put away and never allowed to see the light of day again. Absolutely horrible. And seriously, don't watch the video.

i was too tramatized by watching nick berg's video. and even then, i only saw till the part where the masked men were talking and i couldn't take it because i knew what was coming...

why would you want to watch that in the first place?

also, when the news said that there was a video, it became the number one searched item on google world wide...
