i dont really care that there music is terrible or that there view's are outlandish.

but to take that into a school and upset students?

someone needs some sort of legal beatdown.

These videos were taken directly from their affiliated ministry's website. It seems like they're pretty open about their horrible message. I'm kind of surprised that the school administrators didn't know what they were in for. These particular videos were obviously unavailable at that time, but I'm pretty sure they could've figured out what kind of "presentation" (read: indoctrination) that they'd be getting.

Also, I'm almost positive that I've heard of this band before this incident. I have a vague memory of listening to them and thinking they were awful.

Normally, I'm all for First Amendment rights, and even in this case I am, but I do have a quarrel with the supposed 'adults' who organized this. How do you not research groups you're having speak to the kids you're responsible for? A quick Google search reveals issues with the band from before this particular incident.

I wonder if he realizes that he just did? His statement fairly explicitly implies through comparing the actions of Christians to Muslims that the only way for a Christian to truly serve God is to call for and carry out the execution of all homosexuals and that doing so is morally just.

I might be ignorant about the American Constitution, but isn't this AGAINST the first amendment? In particular, the part that separates church and state. They are fully within their rights to spread this overtly religious message, but not in a government funded context such as a public school.

It would actually be the school that was at fault. I'm personally questioning the legality of showing graphic photos of aborted fetuses to minors as they did in their presentation.

^ I was thinking that the school and the band were both at fault: the band for their proselytising and the school for letting them. I don't know how it would work with the foetus thing in America. I *think* in Australia that would be fine if they're over 18 (it might be 16), and less than 18 (16) you'd need a signed permission slip from a parent/guardian.

I read that these guys were supposed to be there to give an anti-bullying presentation, then once they were onstage and going, they started their real presentation and things got out of hand fast. Someone at that school either REALLY messed up on their research, or thought that this would be a good idea for indoctrinating kids.

These guys are nutcases either way.

The concept of separation of church/state came crom Thomas Jefferson. He wrote a letter to an organization (Danforth? Danbury? Something like that) who wanted clarification on the issue.

The first amendment doesn't hold any sway over public schools. It simply says "Congress shall make no law" which favors one religious establishment over any other, likewise it can't make any laws that infringe on the freedoms of speech, press, peaceful assembly (this one is a REAL gray area these days), and petition.

I'm in the US military, and regardless of what you may think of that, we are sworn to uphold and defend the constitution. To me, that means we should all know at least generally what's written in it.

Fair enough, I don't mean to stereotype, but my (internet) experience with US military people is that they love that constitution. However, I thought it was the separation of church and state (not in the constitution, but that is how the supreme court has interpreted the first amendment) was the reason they got rid of mandatory prayer in public schools.

Hmmm, it's wrong to say it's okay to be gay just as it is okay to be black because you are born black? Are they still pounding that old "recruiting people into gaydom"? And since these people a fundamentally anti-science, you can't point to recent research that shows you haven't got more choice regarding your sexuality than you have over your skin colour either.

One thing though, you have to commend these american hate groups for being able to package their message very attractively.

If a band organised to do an anti-bullying message in a school, and it turned out to be Cannibal corpse and they got up and said "This song is called 'Ripped from the entrails of a Virgin's ....'" Pretty much everyone would be outraged, because the kids are being exposed to a message they should have the choice to hear, they're being exposed to distrubing imagery, they were lied to about what it was... and the list goes on.

I imagine even most metalheads, once they got over the shits and giggles of CC playing in a school would be able to say that it was a bad idea and wrong.

I am a Christian, and I'm outraged at this.

I really hope that the group was actually payed for it, because THEN they would've committed monetary fraud...
