FTL neutrino experiment replicated.

Tried looking for the original thread but wasn't able to find it.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/19/sc...=2&ref=science

In short the team responsible for the 1st finding have repeated the results, this time retooling the neutrino pulse to 3 billionths of a second in an attempt to exclude the pulse size as a source of error.

Here's hoping that we can get another team to replicate the same results.

I'm just hoping that this isn't simply down to some form of timing calibration error between the sending and receiving locations.

I'll reserve my judgment for when this is double tested but I have a strong feeling it is true!

Quote:
Asked if he had seen any interesting theoretical explanations of how neutrinos could violate the speed of light among the papers that have been flooding the internet these past two months, Dr. Ereditato demurred. “That’s not our business,” he said. “A good experimentalist tries to be as cool as possible.”

Dr. Learned and Dr. de Rujula both said there were no convincing theories out there yet. “The theory papers are amusing in that it more and more points out how very much trouble this result will cause, if verified,” Dr. Learned said in an e-mail.

He added, “Fun!”

As opposed to "holy crap how do we explain our results?" However it's nice seeing the team responsible proceeding with caution and working on the principle that the results are anomalous until all other explanations have been exhausted.

With the cold fusion debacle a couple of decades ago it's understandable they are doing these experiments with precautions

Absolutely, having results that effectively flip a digit at relativity is something that needs to be examined with a certain degree of "rigour".

Yes, they replicated it in the same place, using the same instruments. We still need to see an independent replication, as in the same place doesn't necessarily mean anything.
