The notion that Mississippi would try and pass a law to ban abortions, as well as potentially ban birth control is nuts. Has anybody ever seen that movie by Mike Judge, Idiocracy, the satirical comedy where Darwin's theory of evolution is disproved by stupid people procreating faster than intelligent people? Some how I can see this movie concept actually becoming a reality with the passing of such a law. Not all men who impregnate women, and women who become pregnant are fit to be parents! Abortions and birth control may prevent life, but they may also prevent having to live a not so nice life.

I firmly believe people should be evaluated first before they are allowed to have children. A "license style" test along with psych evaluation.
You have to get your License before you can opperate a motor vehicle, to carry a fire arm & even in the medical field your required a license to practice medicine.
So why shouldn't you be required to "qualify" to be a parent when your taking another beings life in your hands for roughly 18yrs.

I believe the book Freakanomics has an investigation into the drop in crime rates which occurs about 15 to 20 years after abortion is legalized in an area. It has to do with less unwanted children growing up and adding to society's problems.

If Gov't had their way it would have been done already. Lets call it The Democratic Birth Control plan. When an amendment that only the strong survive clause in the new medical plan they crammed down our throats.

Personally let em do what they please birth control or not. Just do the right thing and NOT let them live off welfare now they have more kids than they have money for.

Whilst in text this idea is sound and very logical the implications for doing this would not only be astronomically difficult but could also lead to corruption and crime.

Keeping the law on people having children would be difficult because you cant just stop people inseminating people. If you did the moral implications would be disasterous to the populous. Bribary would be evident as stupid rich kids would be able to start a family but poorer smarter ones wouldn't and it would create an upstairs/downstairs mentality once again in our society.

Some people would choose to have children without the state knowing which would lead to anonymous people all over the world. If they did have children and the state found out how would you punish them? Sending the father to jail would result in the loss of a father figure and another role model, and fining them would lead to loss of money, which would possibly lead to more crime to subsidise.

Just how some people with excellent driving skills can't afford a vehicle whilst recless drivers can, The same would be present for children too.

In short, lifes a bitch and we will probably never truly be able to stop idiots having children.

Just in case everybody's still in the dark here, the amendment failed. Probably would have been repealed for being so stupid, anyway. Besides, I imagine that contraceptives, next to oil and drugs, is one of those things that continues to be profitable, no matter the economic situation, and therefore has no chance of being eliminated. Although, you don't really hear about Nuvaring lobbyists bribing government officials.
