Dallas trashbag mom almost kills her child

DALLAS - A two-year-old girl is in critical condition in the hospital and her mother is charged with torturing her and inflicting the damage that put her there.

Police said the abuse started with a frantic call from 22-year-old Elizabeth Escalona to her mother, saying something was wrong with her two year old daughter, Joselyn Cedillo.

When the child's grandmother got to the home she could see just what was wrong. The little girl was unresponsive.

A relative tells News 8 the child had broken bones, bruises and head injuries. The grandmother and other relatives desperately tried to help Joselyn and rushed her to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.

“We just know we picked up the baby and she was hurt," the child's aunt told News 8.

According to police records, Joselyn suffered greatly.

According to police reports, Escalona dragged her daughter by her feet from the kitchen area to another part of the apartment. She then glued her child’s hands and stuck them to the wall until they bled. She then allegedly hit the girl in the stomach with a jug of milk, kicked her in the stomach and beat her with a shoe and a belt.

“Yeah she was extremely bruised," the aunt said. "She had a head concussion, she had a broken leg and broken ribs. We don't know how it happened, but she was covered in bruises."

Police said numerous people say they'd seen Escalona inflict pain on the child in the past. Now, the little girl may have extensive brain damage and countless injuries.

"She was a good kid," the aunt said. "She's playful like any other kid. Spoiled and she's like a little princess."

Police said the torture began because the little girl soiled in her pants, and this was her punishment.

Dallas police child abuse detectives arrested Escalona for injury to a child. Child Protective Services has taken custody of Joselyn and three other siblings.

i am not a person who promotes abortion nor completely defies it.... but i strongly believe that women like this should be forced to either have an abortion, or have the child taken away from them... it's just so unfair for that child.

i mean, if you saw the pic of that little girl, she looks so sweet. a real angel of a kid, you know? my wife and i are having problems having a child ourselves... and this ....ing bitch is given one so easily and literally rapes it.

We've had quite a few stories like this coming from here actually. The Baby P story was quite big in the papers and even worse than this. :/

baby p story? i took some criminology classes... because i wanted to take
part in law enforcement. things didn't work out but i always took an interest in crimes cases. the more disturbing it was, the more it caught my attention. sadly, every time i read these arcticles i just get stressed out and angry over something i can't control. in my mind i am figuring that i can do something by reading as weird as that may seem.

You see more and more of this every day. Stories like this are why there should be some kind of regulation or licensing or something to have kids. There should be some kind of maturity or mental capacity test. An apptitude test, if you will.

Fortunatley the child probably won't remember this abuse when she gets older.

Things like that scar children. When they're such a young age, even little things can create fears and personality disorders because they're developing and it is a delicate process. A child may not remember these events in detail, but it will certainly be apparent that something occurred when they're older.

With regard to the questions being asked about why agencies etc didn't act sooner, it appears that there is always a pendulum effect with regard to such matters. For those old enough to remember (and British) cast your mind back to the Cleveland child abuse scandal of the 80s, which led to numerous cases of children being wrongfully taken from their families based on faulty tests and over zealous social services.

I believe that the Baby P. case is an inevitable result of the pendulum swinging back in the opposite direction. Authorities are that wary (perhaps even paranoid) of having a "false-positive", that action is taken only when there is overwhelming and damning evidence. It seems however that in some cases, the action taken is far too litle and far too late.

Just my two cents, YMMV.
