Today marks the fifth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. We will always remember and honor the many lives that were lost on that day, as well as all those selfless individuals who put themselves in harm’s way to help save others.

The President has proclaimed September 9 - 11 as national days of prayer and remembrance. I ask that all of you take a moment today, at 8:46 a.m. if possible, to pause and remember those lost and the families they left behind.

i came home from my third shift summer job to find my brother watching the news. when i walked in the door, he was pale, and told me, "a second plane just hit." i had no idea what he was talking about. i spent that whole day infront of the TV with him, watching it all happen, since i couldn't sleep. we watched as they both fell.

I still remember that morning so vividly like it was just yesterday. I just felt numb that whole day while I was watching CNN live almost all day... can't believe it's been 5 years.

It is so unfortunate that our government has been at the helm through all of this, because I'll never be able to look at this day with the solemn reverence it deserves. Instead, I always view at as the national tragedy that was spun into the excuse to turn most Americans into frightened sheep by stripping away rights and fighting silly wars to make people money. This will always be a day of great anger and frustration for me, until the day that dolt on PA Ave is out of office and well on his way to shameful isolation.

I should be able to quietly reflect on the sober events of that day...but I can't.

^ yeah, it will forever be hard to separate the politics surrounding that day. in my eye, it was a tragedy in the greatest sense of the word. America was attacked physically, then defeated geo-politically.

It's very easy for me to seperate my personal political views from that day. To me, it's about the people who died that day.

I feel exactly the same way, Dave. Exactly.

On one hand, it is such a shitty thing. To be honest, I don't even want to think about it. All those people, their families... It just fucking sucks. God rest their souls, y'know. What an awful day, and an awful tragedy. Gah. I don't even like to think about it.

But if I do think about it, I'd like to remember it for what it was, just that - a tragedy- and pay it the respect and reverence for the lives lost, as well as anger for the assholes who murdered those folks. But I can't help seeing it exploited and turned into the most politicized event in the last 100 years by the scum sucking politicians.

Rest in peace, you poor people. We are still dealing with the aftermath, these long 5 years.

Whenever I think about those people dying in the WTC, I immediately think of Bush reading a book, doing nothing. Those people don't need prayer, they need justice. Starting with a lot of the people in office.

I, myself, am finding it very hard to concentrate today, and the political discussion on this thread is making me nauseous. It's not what you are saying, because the inept fools that are ru(i)ning this country are beyond egregious in their behavior. It's just the remembrance of those horrifying, surreal images that haunt me.

I can't think of the political aspects now. I can just sit here with a deep feeling of remorse for those who's lives were so needlessly lost.

I was in New York over the weekend. My friend's place in Brooklin has a balcony overlooking downtown, and we stumbled in from dinner Saturday night and went out to the balcony and just leaned against the railing and stared for a while. You could see the light at ground zero pointing vertically into the sky and trailing into the heavens, and standing there a few days short of the fifth anniversary was a strange and bittersweet exerience, the beauty of a single spotlight connecting the city to the sky with the memory of what it stood for. It was surreal.
