Nah, I wouldn't say that. A belief is just that - a belief. And really, the fundamental ideas of most mainstream world religions (be a good person, treat others with respect and kindness, and do unto others as you would unto yourself) are really a good thing.

It's the people who do horrific things in the name of these not-so-shabby ideas who are inherently evil. I have no problems with a, say, devout Christian. Hell, I respect them for their faith even if I don't share it, necessarily. I have huge problems with a devout Christian who firebombs an abortion clinic for their ideas, however.

well, look at history. Most wars, with the exception of many civil wars, have been over religion. Sure some people respect other people's religion, but that isn't stopping the wars. Like I said in another thread to TDW, 1/2 my friends are devout Christians, because we argued our ways right into a friendship. Why did we start argueing? Because every single one of them decided to pick up a conversation with me on if I know I'm going to hell or not. I live in a townhouse, and we have a townhouse association. They've attempted to kick my ass out of my hosue, because I'm atheist, and our neighbors don't want to live this close to something so "evil." Too many religious people do too many things to me to possibly gain my respect.

That also sets a bad example for all of the devout Christians who are good people, that I do respect. Anyone religious on this board, I respect. Anyone who is going to make an enormous diss on my lack of faith is going to get absolutely no respect from me, nor do they deserve any. Too many people hide their scorn for you underneath a veil of pity for someone who hasn't "found God" yet.

I didn't know God was lost. Someone should call missing persons, because they'll assign a detective to the case.
