Volcano eruption on Iceland - Stopping air traffic across northern Europe

Locals remain calm as Iceland volcano wreaks havoc on air traffic

Due to a large cloud of volcanic ash particles, which can severely damage the engine turbines on planes (if I've understood correctly), a whole lot of the air traffic in northern Europe (including Britain) has been shut down. This means that anyone planning to fly to or land in Britain or Scandinavia simply won't be able to, and so far there are no reliable theories on when this will stop. Depending on where the winds go, it could also spread to continental Europe in the coming days.

...but to be real, when you say "a Volcano erupted in Iceland", that's made of pure metal.

yeah got some photos of the "lavender" sunset we had in the UK, was a bit too late to get the best shots but it was rather odd...

Wouldn't that mean a huge seismic event happened under Iceland destroying the entire country? I'm under the impression that Iceland is the top of a dormant volcano.

Pretty simple huh!

Seriously now i fear that with all the profits going away from the airlines and all the people stranded and losing patience someone is going to do something stupid and allow for a plane to take off without being 100% sure that the danger has passed.

Already the leaders of most European countries and the airlines are being plummeted with criticism. Now i am all for bashing these douches for other matters but for now waiting is the best option. This is dangerous conditions for a plane to go through. By the end of this week logically if the volcano doesnt start acting bad again this matter will start going away hopefully.

according to CNN (i know, i know) the last time this volcano was active was circa 1840s and he carried on for 2 years......

was suppose to go abroad for work, had to stay home instead..as far as i am concerned, this volcano is my friend (but for this week only!!!)

the interesting thing is that each time this volcano has erupted earlier, the larger volcano (forgot the name) has always erupted too. so they´re just waiting for the big monster to blow.
